Hello.

I upgraded from a 980 ti to 1080 ti early this month. I ran some benchmarks before and after the upgrade. I mainly focused on 3440x1440 though I included 1440p for some of the benchmarks.

The 980 ti benchmarks were ran using driver 378.92. The 1080 ti was under driver 381.65. All tests were ran before the recent windows 10 creators update. All benchmarks were ran using the same settings on both cards. All benchmarks are ran using built in benchmarks.

For settings I marked if I used a preset. If no preset was available I instead screen shot the settings used from Geforce Experience.

Results

Settings used

GTA V

Batman:AK

The Division

Civ 6

I wanted to run benchmarks for Wildlands but was not able to install the game until I had the 1080 ti installed in my system.

I excluded min/max fps to keep my graph easy to read. I also don't find min/max fps to be that useful since most min/max fps happens during loading between scenes.

Notes

In GTA:V I was being cpu limited at the settings tested which is why the fps increase wasn't as large as expected. Civ 5 also seemed to suffer from this.

All tests were done at stock hardware settings. No manual OC's.

Nvidia has been making significant on advances on their G100/102 cores with each generation. Nearly double the frame rates going from Maxwell to Pascal is pretty amazing.

It's some nice gains without a doubt. Has also made a nice difference in newer games where my 980 ti was starting to feel old at 3440x1440.

So DX12 performance is worse than DX11! Good! It should be so. Lucky me, Windows 7 user.

The GTA V benchmark was disappointing. I was hoping for > 50% increase in FPS.

I wonder what the problem with Civ 6 is? Is it somehow CPU limited? Or is it a DX9 title?

With GTA:V I averaged out the 5 parts of the benchmark. Depending on the scene you'd likely see much better improvements.

Yeah looks like civ 6 is being limited elsewhere. I ran Civ 6 in both dx 11 and dx 12.

Good round up, what were the clock speeds for each GPU if you have them available?

They were stock for the cards.

The 980 ti boosts around 1300 MHz.

The 1080 ti boosts around 1900 MHz. (Card boosts way over advertised clocks out the box)

Those are clocks once they settle in and they both do a little over in short bursts.

The cards I used,

980 ti MSI Gaming 6G

1080 ti Aorus

I uninstalled MSI after burner the other day so I can't give you exact numbers atm.

Ok np then, thanks for the info. Planning 21:9/1440p and 1080Ti/Vega upgrade myself so really relevant.

Yeah np.

I have some other benchmarks I ran at 3440x1440 after the ones I posted.

Far Cry Primal, Ultra preset (84 fps)

Wildlands, Very high preset, Motion blur turned off so it reads custom (75 fps)

I got both games after buying the 1080 ti and running the posted benchmarks so I don't have 980 ti numbers for them.

I have a 980 ti and even though i can get a 1080 ti founders edition for way cheaper than a 1080ti non reference it doesn't seem worth it for now. My core clock on the 980ti is 1418 with custom bios and I also don't plan on selling the 980ti right now as i have other plans for it but i will hold on a bit until i see double performance on 1440p on pretty much any game.

Going from a card that's higher clocked than yours to a 1080 ti that will clock about the same as yours not worth it.

Here are my FPS at 3440x1440. My 980ti (Asus Matrix Platinum) runs at 1425mhz. I hope this helps and I am also looking at upgrading. IDK if I want to wait for end of 2017 or Q1 2018 for Volta.

I sold the 980 ti and moved off my 4790k. I also don't own BF1.
