9800GTX+ length problem

1040 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  RaBidRaBit
hi,everyone I am currently helping my friend to build his rig, as suggesting him the gfx probably go for a 9800GTX+, Just one thing to ask, how long is actually the PCB length of 9800GTX+ in reference design? since it's a critical question for his small antec case, I have tried to put my GTX 280 in his case and it can just bearly fits with its end is about 1 cm distance to the HDD cage. The GTX 280 is 26.5 cm long in PCB, i guess anything longer than that would cause the trouble. I looked around and find some saying its 27.5 cm long but still won't believe it would be actually longer than a GTX280. so post a thread here, hope somebody with clear answer can help this out.

Nvidia has them both at 10.5in so if your GTX 280 fits, so should a 9800gtx+. Sure you want to get that? The 4870 is going for $113 right now.

I have an Antec case also and 10.5" is too long for me (can't lose the 120mm fan I have up front).
These are the non-reference models that are shorter (that I know of):

This one may fit since the pcie connectors are on the top and not the front of the card:

If you can wait a week or two the GTS250 should be out which is the same card and I read there are to be non-reference boards that are shorter.

I think the reference design puts the power connector on the top as well, but some non-reference design like asus dk version put them on the front? correct me if i am wrong cos this is quite important. if GTS250 comes up with only the change in name that should be fine just to get a 9800GTX+ right now cos the price is dropped a few. btw, he get a old model of Antec Sonata II just like you. The case itself is great, has a sound proofing side panel, but just a bit short of space from inside in my opinion. not that suitable for overclockers. thanks for the help anyway

The GTS250 is supposedly coming out next week. It is basically a tweaked 9800gtx+ but it is smaller. Only about 9 inches long. Here is a review of it with a comparison shot next to the 9800.

Credit to dragosmp for the link.

It also only uses one power connector and is supposed to cost $130 retail (according to the review).
