I built my cousin a a rig, you can see details here...
http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...arity-rig.html..

and when I try to boot it up, it goes through the normal posting I guess...it displays 83,87,9A,9F where it shuts down right after 9F displayed. I've unplugged EVERYTHING. Both opticals, all system fans (except CPU of course) all the USB's, taken out the 9800XT to be sure, clear the CMOS via the jumper. cleared the CMOS via the pulling the battery, tried the three sticks of 256 in all three DIMM slots one at a time...

Whats the deal?

Hey, Krunk. If you go to the Abit site and pull down the PDA file with the mobo manual it should have a listing of the post codes in the back and what each code means. Let us know what it says.

(and that smitty guy....what a pr**k!)

Welp, I think I *MAY* have found the issue.

This thing was MODDED to a mobile and apparently the job was kinda hacked.

But I'm not sure if that will throw a 9F post code.
I think 9x codes are power off series.

If it's running up through the 80's it's checking voltages on components, etc.
Once it hits 90 it hands over control to the bios. Above 90 is the power down sequence.

Do you have a different psu you could plug in? I would try that.

EDIT: sometimes it helps to disconnect the PSU from the mobo and physically remove the cmos battery for a few minutes. You might try that before an alternate PSU.

EDIT2: oh, modded chip? all bets off, pard.
Nope. Found it.

It was the CPU. I put in another Socket A that I have and it booted right up.
You could reconnect the appropriate bridges

This link may help you with the proper "Barton" settings.
