A 2nd fan for Megahalem topic.

I apologize ahead of time for being a PITA.

I've been told I picked out the wrong fan for my Megahalem twice. The last "wrong fan" I got was the Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM [110cfm]. I've been told that it is not good for HSF in a few posts.

I just came across where the Kaze Jyuni got into my head. It was used on the PCper review of the Megahalem. Pics below.

I also noticed that this fan was set up as a "pull" and not a "push" fan. Seems the test was without a push fan. So I guess I should set the fan to pull if I just use one, huh? [My last and first HSF was the ASUS Silent Square so this issue didn't come up for me before.]

Why is this fan no good? Is it a matter of work life or something? If this is the case I only use my desktop for gaming and will only be on for ~25hrs a week max and probably 10-15hrs a week. It is shut down when I'm done. No sleep. No hibernate.

With that in consideration, is the Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM [110cfm] still really a bad fan for my Megahalem?

You will find that most people opt for the push method over the pull method or use both.

IMO nothing wrong with that fan 110cfm is more than enough to cool the HS.

I dont see why it is bad, i mean 110CFM that is pretty high

And for only 1900RPM, i wouldnt say dont have it, but i have never owned one before so there may be a deep dark secret behind them

The problem with that fan (and I started out with the same one) is that, while it has great "flow" it has almost no static pressure. You can look at static pressure like this, take a garden hose and place your thumb over the end as it is running and you'll see the water move faster but the water pressure is still at whatever the municipality is pumping it to you. So pushing (or pulling) all that air over the fins does you no good if the pressure moving it is weak.

Personally, I'm running a single Panaflow FBA12G12H1BX pulling and I'm quite happy with my results. My Scythe has been moved to the rear exhaust on my case and is doing quite well there, I just have to do a case mod to remove the restrictions and give it more flow capacity.

I'm really sick of buying fans at the moment. If I'd be happy with the performance PCper got at load with their test, why should I go the extra mile and care about static pressure?

Crazy PC gives this list. It includes the Kaze Jyuni, which is the fan at question.

I'm using Xigmatek XLF-F1253 fans in a push/pull setup and my temps at 100% load are basically equivalent to yours. Check out the last post where I show my OCCT temps for an OC'ed Q9400 @ 3.86GHz @ 1.45v http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...ml#post7686142

Before I was using (2) Scythe S-Flex G's (75cfm @ 1900rpm) and the temps were only ~2C better but noisy as hell when compared to the Xigmatek fans (61cfm @ 1500rpm). What am I trying to say? Scythe S-Flex G's were recommended to me for excellent push/pull setup. When I had decided to experiment with Xigmatek fans (after tech told me that the static pressure is excellent for heatsink cooling), I had to find out for myself... http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...fan-tests.html

Now comparing this to the chart results you had posted, I can 100% agree with LoneWolf3574 that static pressure is a major factor and we can not forget about the ambient temp. BTW...I also have a modded panel door to relieve air-flow restrictions.

I thank everyone for all their help and input. I think I found my plan. I call it Operation: I'm reallllly out of the mood for fan shopping. I'm going to stick with what I have for now and use the Kaze. It won't "not work", either it will work good enough or it won't. If it doesn't "work good enough", then I'll be dissatisfied with the performance and then I'll switch to a S-Flex or Xiggy push/pull.

I'm done driving myself crazy over a freakin fan... for now.

Bro, I totally understand

Well I think the Scythe S-Flex G needs to be added to the list.... it is a great static pressure/ and quiet fan. I would recommend using the push/pull method for best air flow..

Guess you did not check out my response regarding to the S-Flex G & Xigmatek comparison. S-Flex G's are great fans and although on paper comparison it shows the S-Flex G's being the best in the comparison but spending $15 to $20 more on a pair of fans just to gain ~2C for better cooling & more noise, I can not & will not call the S-Flex G's the best for push/pull setup for Megatron.
my 2 pennies of thoughts

CFM isn't really going to mean much if it has bad static pressure which the scythe fan has. In push/pull you'd see better results, but the lower static pressure could be a problem when overclocking as high as you can get. Less air getting through the fins = higher temps.

I have no plans to OC any further. I just want to keep the temps low and the OC I have as long as possible. I will also I good airflow through the case

Considering the two stock fans [1 in/1 out] are equal, I will also have one CM 69cfm front and one on the side as intake and a CM 69cfm and a Kaze 88cfm out.

3in/3out and a slight increase in max cfm out for +airflow.

Don't get torn up over it, really, especially when you could get a ZM-F3 on the push side and be done with it. The Megahalems doesn't need a lot of pressure, but Slipstreams are just bad fans completely. Aside from them having bad static pressure (which has been discussed already), they use tiny 80mm motors that burn out much faster than a normal motor; as a result of that, and the inefficient blade shape and size, it only produces about 80-85 CFM in open air. Toss it on a radiator, and it gets even worse; MUCH more noise, coupled with the poor static pressure means you won't get as good temps as if you'd used a GentleTyphoon/S-Flex G/ZM-F3/D12SH-12/any 38mm fan. But that's a different story.
