The Socket AM2 generation is certainly not going to outperform comparable Socket 939 (DDR400) processors at DDR2-667 memory speeds-see our benchmarks. This is why AMD decided to wait for DDR2-800 and launch in June.

Seems like you guys will need to wait till june....

can't wait to see benchmark with ddr2-800. I'm wondering if AM2 will outperform a lot the actual 939 CPU???

It doesn't really seem like it should be that much of a problem for it to do so. These benches only lagged the 939 by about 1-5%. Come June, AMD owners will be migrating over to the new socket and DDR2.

Not really a new type of processor yet, I am sure that it will accomodate for future revisions of architecture.

I'd hang fire. AM2 is really just socket 939 with DDR2 support and probably won't be much quicker, clock for clock, than 939 is now.

The real upgrade is going to be the 65nm CPUs. Conroe for Intel in the fall, and AMD should counter this quite soon after. One of those 2 will be my next system
