A question for Vista users, who have tried Win 7.

Currently running the Win 7 beta, and loving it.

Thinking of getting Vista for my secondary rig.

So I ask all those who have been using Vista before trying the Win7 beta.

- In terms of display, and Aero performance how does Vista differ from 7?

- Please post the most obvious and significant differences, both visual and functional between Vista and 7.

I have used Vista in the past, but only a little bit.

The version in question is also x64, there is no need for me to have x86 anymore.

visually there is little difference. there is a sort of new look with Win 7 but its more or less vista redressed. If you have used vista, there will be no need to get used to windows 7.

The aero, well windows 7 for me performs more smoothly.
7 you can get the theme almost perfectly clear if you want then on the other spectrum you can get whatever colour you want the theme solid. I think as for aero 7 has alot better option., its minimal but better IMO
I love the way the task bar has been redone, how there are no more XP style tabs. You guys know what I am talking about, how the tabs have been replaced by an icon, that when clicked on show tiny version of the windows open.

Vista work like that too?
-Vista doesn't have a customize UAC like 7.
- (They said it will use less RAM usage Win7 then Vista, still debating this.)
- Easier connecting to networks and sharing in Win7.
- Both will have support for DirectX 11 (Vista later and Win7 [ship with it.])
there is little difference with Aero. its the windows explorer differences that are the biggest, ie the taskbar, the libraries, and so on.
  • vista doesn't have tabs, just an xp style taskbar with window previews.
  • windows 7 has a less aggressive UAC
  • there are no libraries in vista
  • there are more updates for vista
    .
  • some icons have changed
  • vista is more stable, but it needs to have vid drivers, codecs, etc installed after the OS is installed
  • ram usage is just that bit smaller than Vista on idle - i'm using 1.57 gigs with 7 tabs in IE, and WMP playing in the background. with vista that would probably be like 1.77. either way, yioou still need 2GB+ for smooth operation.
can't really think of anything tbh. win7 is a really pleasant experience. but you'll realise it's not that big a step up from Vista.

alrighty then, this is good news. I tried linux mint, and while its fun to play around with it, I know nothing of linux and every time I hit a wall I get frustrated cause I dont know what to do.

So, when is Win 7 set to release?

LOL but because vista was the stepping stone that everyone hated they are gonna love win7 and hail it as the next best OS when in reality its not that much different.

Ah well should be well supported by 3rd party places since they finally figured out how to make drivers for vista. This will aid in its sells I suppose as well. Not to mention that everyone has updated there equipment for vista or realized that you need better equipment which was the big deal with vista so it will be more accepted now with W7 since they have been acclimated to the new requirements.

qft.

the halo aura around win 7 really annoys me. vista isn't that bad to begin with - it's just more demanding than XP and a lot of people don't like that. if you have the hardware for it, Vista is beautiful

how do you think my Sig rig will handle Vista x64?

Cause its running Win 7 beautifully, i would even say its running better than XP.

Easy - i installed and ran x86 windows 7 on a Celeron 2.4ghz, 1gb ram, 30gb hdd, onboard video - was ok for a server
Running x64 7048 on Laptop and gaming system atm - love it
Also - battery life is better, faster overall, easier menus - basically what vista should have been
