So after being on stock cooling for ever, I finally went out and picked up a Corsair A7O to see if I can finally get 4Ghz or more. Problem is at 3.8 running LinX, I get temps in the 80's which seems terrible for a cooler of this size and the fact that I only have a dual core...I remounted to check if it was making contact, which it was, and it didnt affect temperatures at all. Im pretty sure I havent done anything wrong, but I doubt the temperatures are supposed to be this high

Any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to check the installation guide one more time and maybe watch a installation video, if you can find any, maybe on youtube. It is possible you forgot to add some small piece that would have ensured that a proper pressure is applied on the IHS of the CPU.

I saw a review of the Zalman 10x Performa where the reviewer admited he made a mistake during the installation and he had to reinstall the cooler since he noticed unusual high temperatures. It turned out he forgot to add a contact pad sanwiched between the backplate and the back of the motherbord.

After installation does the cooler feel loose? Does the base of the cooler look relatively flat?
Maybe there is a fabrication mistake, maybe it wasn't machined enough....

Make sure it is snugged down tight. Dont be scared to tighten it! also, make sure your fans are not only working but are installed so they air is being pushed out in the proper direction.
