The german website Hardware-infos is reporting the first HD4890 3DMark scores. According to a report by Fudzilla today, HD4890 is said to have more efficient shaders than RV770 chips. And this looks likely to be true from the reports by Hardware-infos. It is reported that in 3DMark Vantage the HD 4890 reached 10,996 points in performance mode.........

ATI looking even better and better

That score is like GTX280 territory

When compared with their testing of HD4870 1GB on a Q9450 @ 3.6 Ghz, the HD4890 on a stock Core i7 @ 2.66Ghz scores 2200 points more than HD4870 on a overclocked Quad core Q9450 @ 3.6 Ghz.

Damn... no apples-to-apples comparison

that looks good. The score would be much higher too with a more oc cpu
I think that this card will be win. It's gonna take over the GTX 280/285 sales majorly.

Exactly...I'll be waiting for official scores

actually that's quite a bit of score incrase, even with the hd4870 only having an lga quad. 1ghz difference the lga775 quad should be outscoring an i7 setup with the same card. So that is very very very good news!
what the heck? it's not even a comparison.

Explain to me the point of a test like that...

To make sure that the CPU's and RAM isn't making a difference in the scores.

I meant his reference. There's no point in comparing two cards if everything else is different too.

more like apples to...pineapples I guess?

When I first heard that you could crossfire or sli on the same board with the i7 stuff I figured it would become pretty standard for benching, you know? run all the tests with one setup, swap gpus, run tests again.

But no such luck I guess
That is very questionable as far as why they chose 2 different cpu/platform setups to run the tests. From what I've read, the Core i7 would rape the Q9450 (even OC'd) because of the hyperthreading. That is probably the reason why the score went up 2k points, but you never know. I OC'd my VisionTek HD4870 to 830/1100 and saw quite an increase in 3dmark06. Hopefully we will see some game benchies and better comparisons.

The pure GPU score stood at 9801 points.

Unimpressive.

That is a very lazy comparison. It is like they did not want to swap out the cards to do an apples-to-apples comparison...

I don't even need to read the article. I can wait for official results. It is looking more and more like my next "gaming" is going to be ATI. I will have to stick with the Nvidia for folding though.

Thats not that far off of the GTX 280 score, and Vantage is bias towards nVidia anyway.

bias or not, performance is performance. Same goes for games, same goes for folding.

It scored what my GTX260 Core 216 55nm scored for GPU score.
