A good four drive NAS enclosure is $150-300. The rest is because it's new, WD branded, for teh noobs and because there are people that want the warrant and such that come with a prebuilt NAS, same as some people pay the premium to buy a prebuilt computer.

Or you could just buy 8 1TB drives for a fraction of the cost.

Do the other ones rival this in features? Isn't the Drobo $500 alone?

What are the other good NAS boxes?

The best deals on hard drives are under $.10/GB, though, like $130 for a 1500GB drive.
