the upcoming OS from Microsoft will support Logon screen Customisation. Although this has been done since Windows xp days with the use of software from Stardock and the likes, but official support means no messing with sensitive files or things going awry. It is reported that this functionality is for OEMs but it can be turned on and off by editing windows registry and using your own images.
Imagine putting your image on logon screen to let people know who the owner is or valentine day gift PC/laptop/netbook for your girlfriend/boyfriend with your image as the logon screen so that they see you every time they logon, just a thought !

yes, those kinda programs are fine, but what would you rather have official support messing files or unofficial programs corrupting windows files ?

I also want more eye candy. especially multiple desktops. When are they gonna do that.

Probably because this would confuse people. Multiple desktops is very simple, but some people are very stupid. inb4 OMG WHERE DID MY <insert name of extremely valuable document> DISAPPEAR TO?!?! When here all they did was click the little "2" on the task bar to switch to the second virtual desktop.

Linux already has most of these features, and I'm sure Microsoft is just holding these ideas so they won't eventually run out of things to do. Maybe Windows 9 will have a customizable startup screen, with Windows 10 bringing in a compiz-fusion-like cube. (assuming they stick with this numbered naming scheme.)
