Howdy folks,

Been trawling around the interweb looking for a definitive answer to this, but I just can't seem to find one! Essentially I was to know if the Accelero EXTREME Plus cooler will fit on my Gainward 4870X2 with the VR001 heatsink set. The description says it supports the 4870, but I haven't found any information that specifically states whether it does or does not support the 4870 X2.

The problem being is that I have just moved to work in Madrid, it's the start of April and the temperature outside is already over 30 degrees at times. Nice for most things, but not for my GFX card. I know the card is now a couple of years old, but it still runs everything I need without issue ... but I worry that the stock cooler is starting slack, and noise is like having a helicopter idling under my desk all the time ... it's ridiculous!

The Accelero EXTREME Plus is available at a store right around the corner from me, so that would be the ideal solution. I know there is a specific Accelero 4870X2 cooler, but that seems a little harder to find these days. Or, if anyone has any other suggestions for a VERY quiet cooler, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks for any help,
Ori

no you need the Accellero extreme that is specifically meant for the 4870X2

Edit: I think your only other option is going under water. you could also try changing the TIM if the card is a couple of years old.

Cool, thanks for the replies ... I suspected this might be the case

Unfortunately the Accelero Xtreme Plus 4870X2 was discontinued a while ago and I'm struggling to find anywhere that can supply one.

Are there any other alternatives for the 4870X2? Would rather not have to go the whole water cooling route just for a card that's a few years out of date anyway? So just looking for a quieter air-cooled solution.

I guess I can try to replace the heat transfer paste, but the fans are still WAY too loud regardless!

Cheers, Ori

Ahhh, good spot! Thanks!

Says he won't deliver abroad though, but I have contacted anyway to see if he could stretch to Madrid.

In the meantime I have just totally stripped the 4870X2 and cleared out all the dust, applied some Arctic Silver 5 and I'll give that a go now.

Cheers, Ori
