Hi

I went to the chemist to get some acetone to clean off my CPU and HS. It says 100% acetone on the front. But when I got it home on the back in small print for the ingredients it has "acetone, perfume". Is it ok to use this stuff to clean my CPU? Will the perfume leave any residue?

At the local chemist/crystal meth dealer.

Can't you buy acetone from a hardware store or paint store?

please be advised..as a chemist I can tell you that companies advertise many things as 100%...if there is a single aditive, it is obviously no longer 100%...if it has an added ingredient, but yet still claims to be pure, then the added ingredient must be in amazingly minute quantites....yet for purposes such as you intended, you would be advised to use alcohol.

Acetone owns alcohol in removing hard to clean stuff. But if its not pure acetone, its still ok to use, just use alcohol afterward to remove any residue.

ok been down to the local DIY and they haven't even heard of Isoprophyl Alcohol. They pointed me towards Methylated Spirits and White Spirits? Just as a question, can I use Meth/White Spirits to clean as well, what is the main difference between them and Isoprophyl Alcohol?

Also on the matter of Acetone, somebody was telling me its pretty hard to get pure acetone here, something to do with it being a key ingredient in TriAcetone TriPeroxide explosive. I don't know how true this is but I wasn't able to find any pure acetone in the "pharmacy" or DIY store.

What about the alcohol cleaning pads they have in pharmacys, are they pure alcohol?

I would still just use Isoproprphyl Alchohol. You can get it at Walgreens if there is one in your area. Its just alcohol but 91%. I think you can in fact use spirits but I dont think it will do a good job. Also you can use Tequila if you have any around or any other strong alcohol.

Also we still call them a Pharmacist here not a Chemist, but it may very per state.

You need some 99.9953% Isoproply Alcohol: Here

Really all you need is 91% or higher Isoproply, like under a euro at your 'chemist'.

I know you can't buy from newegg, but this stuff is found everywhere:
Good too.
