Sup guys,

I acquired a 7900GS and was wondering if I would be able to put it to any sort of use?
I haven't been in the computer industry long enough to know it's capabilities/reputation.
Would I be able to use it as a Phys-X card with my rig in my sig? Any suggestions? Otherwise I'll just keep it as a spare just in case, my family's PC has an ati HD5670 in it, so it's not gonna be an upgrade on that.

Nope, I would say worthless as Phys-X card, especially considering you're running a 670. If you're interested, it could probably be put to use on the OCN BOINC team, I know there are some projects there that can use a much wider range of hardware than [email protected] So, check out BOINC, and if you can't use it there (or don't want to run your computer extra time) then your best use for it would be a backup card.

PhysX for that card would be a major downgrade.
I was in a simular situation to you a couple years ago when i went from 2x 8800 GTX's to a 560ti. I actually tried a 560ti main + 8800GTX for physX ..it didnt work well.
I still have those 8800 GTX's in my loft. Most gear that old isnt worth selling imo, so i advise u to do what iv done ..keep them for spare.
Its especialy handy if ur CPU doesnt have a onboard GPU like mine, if my 560ti pops..im screwed unless i have a backup..thankfully ..i do.

Ofcourse u could always just save it for when u upgrade the rest of ur rig. Then u can put together another computer and sell it on as a prebuilt.. it wont get much but still probably easier to sell it than selling individual components.

This is what I thought, I'll probably keep it and slowly gather up parts and put together a spare computer of sorts eventually. I might pop it in to my pc some time and see what it's actually capeable of haha

Do you have the AGP version? If so you wont even be able to use it in most modern PCs.
Besides, I believe Physx requires cuda support, which the 7xxx series doesn't have.

The card is a decent performer; My friend still has a 7800gs AGP and it runs games like torchlight2 @1080p just fine. If you have an older core2/Athlon64 system with integrated graphics it will be a huge boost, but if you plan on building something new like a trinity rig, you're better off just using the integrated graphics.
