Acrylic Panels, where to get?

925 Views 18 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  nathris
I have an idea forming in my mind for a simple tech station. Essentially it would be a clear acrylic panel with ATX screw holes, with 1" spacers in between the panel and the motherboard.

I need a fairly thick panel (I'm thinking 1cm) roughly the size of an ATX motherboard, but I can't find anything.

Does anybody know where I could find such a panel? Or if you can suggest a better material (preferrably clear), I would appreciate it.

or

That first one is good, but they want me to order it first before they give me a shipping quote. Shipping could potentially be upwards of $50 :/

Any place that easily ships to Canada?

Why would it have to be 1cm? 1/4" or 5mm should be sufficient for a MB tray.

Stability I guess. The thicker panel wouldn't flex, and the motherboard screws would be more secure.

Plus I think it would look nice

Where in Canada do you live? If your in a major city look in the yellow book. I found a local company in Toronto that sells acrylic sheets.

$90 -.-

I found this:

Shipping is only $5 to Canada, but it only comes in 1/8" thickness. Do you think that would be enough?

For a motherboard tray 1/8" would be too thin; 1/4" is plenty thick enough (my case is made almost entirely out of 1/4" acrylic sheet.

For the OP or anyone else out there, I would be very leery of Delvies.

I recently ordered from them, and their customer service is apparently non-existent. All my emails were ignored, and I got no answer when I tried to call them. Processing and shipping on my order took far longer than average for a CONUS delivery. I also don't have any idea whether or not my order was correct, because they finally delivered yesterday; to my bill to address instead of my ship to address, which is 400 miles away.

I know I didn't mix the two addresses up, because the sole confirmation/update email I received from them (almost a week ago) verified these addresses. That was about all it confirmed. Even though I registered to their site, I never did figure out how to track my shipment. Their email said I would receive notification from UPS, but I never did.

That was why I had tried to contact them so much, this was my first on-line order where I seriously had that "you just got scammed" feeling.

They have some great prices, but definitely order with caution.

I've never ordered from Delvie's so I personally can't comment on their service. I know Syrillian typically gets his acrylic from TAP Plastics, but IIRC he has also purchased from Delvie's.

Lowes/home depot carry acrillic sheets, don't know if they'd have one thick enough but might be worth a shot.
most hardware stores sell plexi glass
http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/cat...e=21314&Page=1

I've order several acrylic sheets from there with excellent results. The shipping is also dirt cheap and they give you a quote before putting in any info. Let me know if you like it or have any questions.
US Plastics is the way to go....get it smoked or colored.

easy peasy.

I have had no experience with Delvie's .. I saw a thread update this morning referring to them-- it said to be cautious, something about their service and delivery...I will look for the thread and EDIT this one when I find it.
