Install the other mobo's drivers before the switch.
well i know that, but lets say for some reason(because everybody on this forum knows computers like to make something go wrong despite ur efforts) that i have to reinstall win7, what issues will i have with the activation if any....

Since it's retail, there won't be any problem. At the worst, it'll tell you to call. And then if you have to call, then the worst that will happen is that it will force you to talk to somebody. But the worst that can come out of that is you get somebody you can't understand very easily. That's as bad as it can get, and even that's a walk in the park.

But if it were OEM, then it would be a different story.

I know with windows xp you could use the code about 6? or so many times before you had to call MS (the call for registration in the install set-up) for registration help.

Yeah, but it's still a retail copy.

Either way: you don't have to be concerned about it.

^This. You'll have to call Microsoft and activate by phone. First you'll talk to the automated system, but once you're done it will tell you there's a problem and transfer you to a live person. That person will then ask you several questions such as "Is this the only computer you are installing this copy of Windows on?" Explain to them that it is the only computer but you had to change the motherboard. They will then read an activation code back to you.

But the chances are good that if you have to call, the Activation system will work the first time for sure.

It'll take a week or 2 (maybe 3), but I promise you that you will eventually loathe XP quite a bit.

I jumped straight from XP quite unwillingly. It was an experiment using the official Release Candidate. But within a few days, I made the Release Candidate my main and only operating system. When UPS delivered my retail copy of Windows 7, I had it installed within an hour.

So you're right that you'll miss XP since it's a big change. But once you're used to Windows 7 and then are therefore able to see why it's superior, you'll never want to even look at XP screenshots, let alone use the operating system (not even for a second).
