I have heard of data corruption issues with the active armor firewall on NF4, but I had never encountered the problem myself, that is, until yesturday.

Anyways, downloads keep getting corrupted, so I turned off the firewall and it worked fine again. So I reinstalled the firewall and all is well.

Anyone with some insight on what is causing the problem (besides the obvious answer ActiveArmor)?

BTW, I'm using NForce 6.86 drivers.

Also, please, no need to bash ActiveArmor firewall more than necessary, it works well for me (most of the time) and I like it.

It's kinda hard to get passed the "Obvious Answer." If everything works with it disabled, then that seems to be the only issue. Have you tried other firewalls, like Zone Alarm?

Just don't install the firewall. Its common knowledge that it causes all kinds of problems. I had not had a problem with until a few reformats ago, now I don't touch it at all.

Or you can just go on e-bay and get a cisco router. This can do all the filtering you would need, and it doesn't hog all of your resources. I got one for 30 bucks. Works great.

It works now after I reinstalled the nforce drivers...

Could it be that the drivers somehow got corrupted? I just downloaded about 2GB of stuff and no corruption happened.

6.86 is supposed to have fixed the data corruption issue... But i haven't connected to the net for about 6 weeks, so there were plenty of time for something to get messed up.

BTW, a router is against the AUP at the place I'm using my computer and I really don't want too many of my precious cycles chewed up by the packet filter.

Anyways, anyone with a suggestion for a better (free) firewall? I'm using comodo on my other box. Most of the free ones I tried were too limited.
