Adding extra 2gb of ram

360 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  slash129
Okay, so my brother is building a new computer and he currently has the same RAM as me, the CORSAIR XMS2. He is going to have to use different RAM since he is going AMD, so he is going to give the xms2's to me. Will I have any trouble or anything? Just posting this to make sure nothing bad's going to happen.

Not at all, just turn off your computer, put the RAM in, start up your computer and adjust any settings that needs to be changed in the BIOS and off you go

Nope.

Just put it in the same coloured RAM slot that your current stick of RAM is in to make sure it runs in dual channel mode.

If you've got 2 x 1GB sticks, then you should insert them in two empty same-coloured RAM slots.

My OC settings aren't gonna get messed up or anything right? I just have them set on 4-4-4-12 and 1:1.
No, just put your timings on your new RAM the same along with your RAM that you already have.

They shouldn't, no.

There can sometimes be issues with using more sticks of RAM due to it putting more strain on the NorthBridge, but that can usually be solved by upping the voltage ever so slightly.

My bets are that you'll be fine, though.

Remember this: If you do run into any issues, me, and the people of OCN will be more than happy to help out.
