I'm trying to help a friend build a rig for video editing, but we're stuck on GPU selection. He plans on using Premiere CS5. I went to Adobe's site and they show this very odd list of supported GPUs...

Why only a GTX470 in the GT400 series? Does it really not support a GTX480 or a GTX570, a GTX460, etc.?

Ignore that list. As long as the card has CUDA cores, you can get it to work with CS5.
Here's the link on how to do it: CLICK HERE
No don't ignore that list because those are best option cards, take my word from experience, you will have weird results or program glitches through the panels when not using a suggested card. Plus most of those are WORKSTATION cards. If you plan on doing a ton of editing save your money and add it somewhere else and get a workstation card that is suggested. You won't regret it

Well, I haven't had a single issue and have been completely happy with the performance.

yeah ive had no problems in premiere pro cs5 with my 480, all you need to do is add it to the txt file, doing the stuff in nvidia control panel doesnt appear to do anything for me, but you may aswell just go with a 470 to be safe, itd be annoying if you were unlucky enough to run into any glitches.

whats your usage like. if its 12 - 20 hours a day in acrobat, distiller, indesign, illustrator, photoshop and dreamweaver plus not to mention color calibration weekly with six monitors and four printers total, then dont take my word for it

Not sure how much printers rely on GPU performance, but I do use Premiere Pro, After Effects, Encore, Flash and Photoshop Extended CS5 about 10 hours a day.
