Advise on cutting a hole for a PSU

Dose anyone have any advise on cutting a hole for a 120-140 mm fan in the bottom of my antec 900. I'm probably going to buy a hole saw. But i wanted to add a dust filter so my PSU isn't sucking dust up. "My computer is already elevated off the floor so carpet isn't an issue. I'd like to be able to clean the filter ever so often.

I could advise it, but it's usually not worth the trouble.

My PSU didn't have a temp change in my 300 from cutting the hole or just keeping it flipped and using the air in the case.

trace a cd and cut out the outline. should give ya perfect circle that will fit the 120mm
hole saw or trace... whatever works for you. for the filter, you can make a frame out of scrap wood or anything thats lying around. Then stretch a pair of pantyhose over it and cut off the excess. TTHEENN you can secure it with the fan screws, or anything else you can think of.

I flipped it and could feel a noticeable difference in air flow. Dose a PSU really need a lot of air flow to keep cool?

Take a look at what Demented posted the other day - you could try a similar thing or PM him if you have any questions...

Doesn't look like he flips his over. The reason for the flip is because the cables are to short go threw my cable management holes and i don't want to extend a 24 pin : )

Edit: Maybe investing in a couple of cable extenders might be a better idea? : )

It all depends on your unit. Mine does not have a problem being flipped. And most PSU's are good under 40*C

For that matter, PSU's don't generate alot of heat unless they are really being loaded hard.

Yah i guess its a cheaper way to go
Use a CD for 120mm holes, and you could cut it with a dremmel or with a jigsaw with a fine tooth metal blade, then put this on it:

I lumped all my Tempest mods together in a one week modding excursion. I traced a CD, and dremeled it out. Used a file to remove burrs. I did it so the cables would be adjacent to the mobo tray, instead of cutting across the case and going behind the tray. I probably wouldn't have done it, but I had my case completely stripped down for a paint job, and I said "why not?" It's on my desk, propped up on 2 books to allow air to get to it. It was a great mod. Worth it for cable management purposes.

If you can get your hands on a 4.5" hole saw it's pretty easy, probably much easier than using a dremel. That is if you are still contemplating putting a new fan in instead of extenders.

I used a dremel, because I wasn't able to swing out to Home Depot to grab a hole saw. Looking back on it, I would have used a hole saw, as the dremel left some nasty marks. Fortunately, it was on the under-side of the case, so it was basically invisible. Remember, always ALWAYS use safety goggles. My whole face was a shade of grey from all the metal when I was finished dremeling. If I hadn't used them, I would be blind for sure. Never mod without safety goggles. I'm sure you already know that
Yah I'm pretty good with dremel.
