Affordable Small, fast drives

Hi everyone,

I need to load Windows 7 for my CIS class so I figured I'd buy a new drive. Currently I'm using an old 160GB IDE drive from 2005/6 and I'm only using 80GB of it.

What are some good performance, affordable drives in the 160-250GB range? I looked at some prices on 10k RPM drives and they're way too pricey for me.

For the most part I use this machine for gaming and light school work.

Thanks

As soon as I saw the title, the Western Digital Caviar Black came to my mind. Unfortunately, the smallest I can find is a 500 GB. But fortunately, Newegg has a great price on it at $69.99 shipped!

Now, I know 500 GB is massive overkill here, but it seems like everyone says that these drives are really fast for being 7200 RPM drives. So, what do you think?

+1 to the caviar Black. My friend has one of the 500gb and it outperforms my 2 oldish Sata hdds in Raid 0.

Thanks for the suggestions guess I'll go with a Caviar Black
These are pretty quick drives, or so I've heard.

Edit: oh wow, it just went out of stock.

Wait for Black Friday sales.

The sweet spot for HDs now is around 600-800GB so you're best off getting one of those and short stroking for performance.

Thanks everyone, +rep. Ended up getting a Caviar Black 500GB from Newegg. Looks pretty solid and I'm sure it's much faster than my current drive
Doesn't seem to get a lot of failure reviews which makes me feel better about it.

After having this IDE drive so long I'd hope this Caviar Black lasts that long

I'll probably get an SSD on my next build if the prices are better.

Lesson learned. I thought NewEgg released their deals already when I ordered but evidently they're offering the 640GB Caviar Black for $20 cheaper than what I paid for the 500GB.
