I'm really considering removing my IHS to get that small temp drop, and will go looking for that razor I need to do this.

However, I'm just worried about putting my heatsink back on. It's a XP-120, with 4 stiff clips which need to be attached to the mount on the board. Now, to stop the sink springing off when 1 clip is on, I press down on the sink.

I press down even more when getting the last clip on. Could all this pressing down kill the exposed core?

XP-120 pretty much works the same way...

you'll definately have to be more carefull attaching the heatsink...

hold the H/S level with one hand trying not to move it around....

when you fasten the clips...do the opposite corners first...

I start with the hardest corner first...for me thats the top-left with the board facing up....then I fasten the lower-right then top-right and finally the lower left...

Also you prooly wont need any bumpers unless you dont trust yourself...

the main thing is hold the sink squarely while seating the clips...you dont need to use accessive force to hold it in place... hth's

Thanks for that link. That placement of the 2 washers is rather ingenious, to make up for the gap difference.
I plan on lapping my heatsink at the same time, and have got some 1500grit, 2000grit, and 2500grit paper, DEAD cheap, off ebay. I'm just wondering if its worth buying this kit (containing only 400, 600 and 800grits)? If not, anyone know any UK shops (internet or high-street) where I can get ranges of sandpaper to get me up to 1500grit?
