Hello all,

It's been a little over a year now, and my rig's not quite doing as well as I'd like it to with gaming and whatnot.

I had planned on buying a 2nd GTX275 and running them in SLI, but I'm struggling to find a place to buy one.

Does anyone know a place where I can find one? Is it worth it, or should I just get a new GPU? And if so, which one? I'd be looking to spend less than $300.

Any ideas?
Thanks for the input!

Hey there

I've went through the same dillema afew weeks ago, I didn't know what to do because I didn't quite feel satisfied with a single GTX 275. Eventually I decided to go for a 2nd one, After looking for a while (I'd buy from eBay but I can't) I found a cheap Sparkle GTX 275 in a local store, and eventually I bought it. SLI'ed them babies and it works great now.

P.S. Of course you can also get a GTX 4xx and keep ur 275 as PhysX, but in my case it was way smarter money-wise to go for SLI.

i think you should oc your i5 to at least 3.6GHz THEN decide on upgrading graphics.

2.8Ghz vs 3.6GHz is a big difference in gaming performance.
this. u should see a jump in fps

My last card was a 275 and there were only a few games that struggled at 1920x1080, still a very capable card.

Personally I would not SLi, power, noise, no DX11, resale etc.

If your wanting to spend under $300 I would look at a GTX570 or HD6970 which are both "very" substantial upgrades.

Flog off that 275 for maybe a 100 bucks on ebay or where ever and the upgrade cost you $250 ish.

Alternatively grab a HD6950 and OC the hell out of that sucker or bios flash it effectively to a 6970 all for a $200 ish upgrade.

Thanks all for the input.
I'm in college right now, so time is really tight just as is money.

Getting one from ebay seems like the easiest thing to do.

An OC would be nice to do, but is that not a somewhat time-consuming process? (i've never done it before)

I'm also cooling my i5 with http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Zalman-Fatal1ty-Cooler-Series/207 and it's running pretty hot as is. I had looked at getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181013...

I do [email protected], so stability is really important to me because my rig's on 24/7, but if I can get a stable OC over the course of a weekend, then I can manage that, otherwise I'll just have to wait or pull up ebay.

So, can I manage a stable OC over the course of a weekend? I'd probably need better cooling, huh?

You can sell it and upgrade it to a more powerful card. HD 6950 would be a good example. Also for CPU cooler dont waist money on H70. For that much you can get a RASA Kit and get much better temps. You CPU should get at least 3.8Ghz stable 24/7.

LOL i went through the same thing!
i knew i wanted to get a GTX570 or a HD6950, but being an unemployed & 15, i have to sell/trade my precious 8800GTs so i can afford to buy another 275

i bought the EVGA one a few days ago from another member here for 130 bucks!
i havent SLi'd them yet (im working on hacking the board and buying an sli cable) but im pretty sure its really worth it!
GTX275s in SLi is equivalent to a GTX480 or 570 (or a 470 w/o connector i think)
either way its a huge improvement!

try looking here or on ebay for one!

Okay. I'm just getting 65C right now so that's why I was concerned.
...and as far as the RASA Kit, it comes back to if it takes more than a day or two or needs to be looked after I can't do it, and the H70 was just a quick, easy, set-and-forget solution.
