am3 vs am2+ BS ... why not make it simple....

No, I believe the am2+ CPU's can't run ddr3, and AM3 motherboards require it.

I'm not sure when they're releasing.

Edit: I think the AM3 CPU's will support ddr2 and ddr3.

My board is AM3 but only supports DDR2.

Yes, correct.

The motherboard and cpu prices at Newegg have really jumped in the past couple of weeks. I paid just over $400 for my cpu and MB in a combo deal.

i believe the 945be is set to be released in april the 925 i believe was suppose to come out end of last month but that didnt happen so there could of been a push in release dates

THE PHENOM II 940/920 WILL NEVER RUN DDR3 END OF STORY!!!! ALL OTHER PHENOM II's (AKA AM3) will be able to run DDR2 or DDr3. Sorry for caps just I have typed it several hundred times now. There is a reason the 940/920 are labeled as am2+ cpu's

It is. Very decent actually.

I think he'd be surprised to see the winner when paired up against his E8500.


And to answer the OP's question - No. The 940BE will not work on a DDR3/AM3 motherboard.

this has been answered many many times before, AM2+ boards will be ABLE TO TAKE AM3 CPU'Sif the manufacturers specifies and or/ releases an BIOS update, but AM2+ will NOT be able to use DDR3 mem. unless you can find a hybrid board that does both. AM3 boards WILL *ONLY* take AM3 cpu AND DDR3 mem.
