At $47.99 the Titanium HD kicks the living crap out of these. At MSRP the Xonar would be a much better option for music and movies though.
The Xonar Essence STX is more for an audiophile or as you pointed out movies/music, but to be quite honest they still do well for gaming. And if gaming is the only reason you are using a sound card I might agree with you.

$50 Titanium HD > $150+ Xonar ST/STX
I know the fact that the ST/STX has an amp still makes it better even at that price point for those that REALLY NEED an amp. I run my audio from sound card > external amp > sub > speakers. So the need for the onboard amp from the xonar isn't needed that much for me.
