camera isn't so hot i'd rather get a D90 for a few hundred more!
Any DSLR you'll find right now is miles ahead (understatement) of a P&S, so good deal.
Hey Marin, I know you're good with cameras and all. I'm getting ready to buy my first DSLR. How would this D3000 compare to the likes of Eos Rebel Xsi? The XSI caught my attention for the longest time.. And can't really find any good deals on it. I might pull the trigger on this D3000 :S
Both are great cameras. Best thing to do is try them out and see which one works better for you. Anyways, can't go wrong with either Nikon or Canon.

Thanks +fake rep

Does either one of these have any particular advantages over the other?

For the sake of comparison.. The D3000 and Rebel XS are the same price right now.

Which one would you buy?

P.S- I'll buy whichever one you choose ^_^

The kit lenses are fine for anyone who is starting. And there are plenty of lenses under $500 that are good, don't get where you got that figure.

Consider me a newbie at photography. It will be a good few years before i'll invest that much into lenses. I really want just the basics for the learning experience.

The basic kit lens is not bad by any means. For a professional probably not, but a prodessional isn't buying a D3000. But for someone buying this kit, it's fine.

lol fair enough
......it's just that i bought the telephoto ef for my xti and the focus difference is amazing from the kit supplied lenses
