I have a 3500+ and a evga board nf41 socket 939,a pair of bfg6600 in sli and pqi pc4000 memory. I need more cpu power for hd tv curently running 90 to 100%,I have 6 fans in the case and runs at 91 F,fans blow on vid cards to keep them cool. I dont know how to overclock,I set the bus speed to 300 and it ran but would like to know what to set settings at to achieve 2.8 to 3.0 ghz. Not to woried about if it dies as I will need a faster processor any how if not successfull. the 500 speed ddr will that make much difference? any help would be greatly apreciated as I already have spent hundreds of hours getting this stelite card working and am getting tired.thankyou in advance.

there are a lot of good FAQ's to read here to learn how to properly overclock. Honestly I couldn't tell you if your proc could go stable at 2.8 to 3.0 ghz. my 3500 didn't, but you may get lucky.

The Duke will give you some FAQ's to read

Ok.

FSB is going to have to be around 260... You will need alot of voltage to get to the 2.8 area. 1.6v and above. Increase chipset voltage by 0.05 - 0.1v. The RAM should be able to overclock by 10Mhz without much trouble... Set HT multiplier to x3. If it doesn't boot reset CMOS and put a divider on the RAM and see if it works then. Just my initial thoughts.

Chances are, you won't get there. My chip didn't and I don't know many that have.

At 1.6v and above that processor might just die... so keep an big eye on those temps.

Once you have that stable you can do some more tweaks - such as getting the RAM 1:1

Before you do that though, read FAQs like mudd advised. Don't do anything unless you know what you're doing.

I can go to 2.66Ghz @ 1.550v (I haven't tried any more voltage than that - temps go to 50c load)

cpu at next boot
dram clock
cpu ratio
cpu v core
cpu v core 7-shift
overvoltage
vram output
nb voltage
ldt voltage
would be happy to hit 2,5 or 6 if you know what settings could acomplish this, the please help as I am dieing to watch hdtv, also any help with the video cards to get lower cpu use would help.thanks again

ouch, tooooo much voltage for just 170 MHz. i could get to 2.6 GHz on 1.55v
you need to do some reading before you go around playing w/ your settings because there's more than just overclocking the processor. In order to overclock you have to boost up your HTT which boosts up your HTT Bus, but if your ram can't support more than DDR400 you have to use a divider to run your memory in the right speed etc etc, then you have to adjust memory timings.

Where's the duke when you need him for those handy FAQ posts...

returned voltage to default, over 220 bus it would not start video ,under 220 ran but kept rebooting at 216 restarted and stable,as high as it would let me go.

you are getting tooooooo high on your HT or your HTT w/ the memory timings you have. you need to read the overclockers guide on the main page because it'll help you out a lot. you should be able to crank at least 400 more MHz out of your 3500+.....

especially w/ the fx-55 don't overclock until you read up more and become a bit more educated. don't want to blow up such a fine chip.

what you need to do is experiment w/ your 3500+ and blow it up. then switch your fx-55 in. just be sure you overclock in bios and not in windows....

I seen on new egg reviews lots of people said they changed the multiplyer to 14 and had 2.8 but if they went went higher so did the heat. Will I notice a big improvement with the x55 and do you think it is better than dual core? thanks for the replies.
