Alright guys here is my problem. I'm building a new system and I'm looking for a CPU here and I've narrowed down my search to 2. The Athlon 4000+ or the Opteron 150 whats your opinions?

Gaming and a fair amount of O.C.ing

Also, since you are on an overclocking forum, do you plan on doing any OCing? If so, get the opteron. They undergo more rigorous testing because they're really made for server work. They tend to OC better, especially if you have a good week. If you're really into it, google opteron 150 stepping or something (whatever the core is, i don't know) and find out a good week and then try and find one. Those are the ones that go really high on air.

I'll tell you, if i'd have known, I would have bought an Opteron and not 4400.
First off, if your OCing the 146, with a good core will OC just as well as the 150.
Currently the SanDiego 3700+ are OCing very well!!!
The above options will save you a bunch if you intend to OC!
i would say the 4000+ looks like its cheaper, and the Opterons are more of a server type processor, since your just gaming and O.C.ing grab the 4000+ but someone in here might tell you to save even more money on this decision and buy a 3700+ Sandy and overclock it, they go up to 3.0ghz i think )

The Duke beat it to me. )

I know this but the problem is that it might take me 1-2 months(probably alot sooner.) before I get all my stuff together and I don't know how often new steppings come out. I was thinking of getting the 3700+ because of all the great overclock stories. But in fear of stepping changes decided to look for a higher clock stock.

The most recient 3700+ have been hitting 3g on air

The KAB3E seems to ROCK... a few are in here and doing well.

He who hesitates... wishes he hadn't ... had I not waited when I did I'd of had a 146 CAB2E 0540 instead of the 144 CAB2E 0540 or perhaps an CABNE or CABYE

Opteron, if for no other reason, its a little more...exotic I guess. The 165 is only a dollar more than the 150. Of course the clock speed is lower, but you get dual core.
Get a 165 opteron and overclock it to speeds of FX-60. you won't regret it trust me.
