Advanced Micro Devices discounted its Athlon 64 X2 processor family by as much as 20 percent on Monday morning.

Although AMD cut prices on its Athlon 64 X2 family, the microprocessor company reserved the majority of its discounts for its mobile lines. An AMD spokeswoman confirmed the discounts, although the revisions hadn't been posted to AMD's pricing page at post time.

AMD trimmed the price of its fastest Athlon 64 X2 4800+ by just under 20 percent, as the price of the chip fell from $803 to $643. AMD discounted the 4600+ and 4400+ X2 chips by 14 and 8 percent, to $556 and $467, respectively. Similarly modest cuts arrived with the revised prices of the 4200+ and 3800+, discounted 11 percent and 8 percent to $362 and $301, respectively.

AMD's Turion 64 chips also received substantial discounts: 20 percent for the high-end Turion 64 ML-44, which saw its price fall from $525 to $354. The ML-42 and ML-40 processors were sliced by 26 percent and 16 percent to $263 and $220, respectively.

AMD also cut the prices of its Mobile Athlon 64 by between 8 and 12 percent, discounting the 4000+, 3400+, and 3000+ parts. AMD's Mobile Sempron chips received similar reductions, as the Mobile Sempron 3400+ for full-size notebooks entered the lists at $114.
