I have overclocked other systems before, so I am not completely new to overclocking, but I am having some trouble with a new system I have built.<br><br>
Specs:<br>
Mobo: Gigabyte GA M55plus S3g (rev.2.1) {F6 Bios}<br>
CPU: DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2000 MHz (Clocked to 2400 MHz)<br>
GPU: ASUS NVIDIA GeForce EN7600 GS (512 MB)<br>
RAM: Corsair CM2X512-5400C4 DDR26700 (x2 = 1024MB)<br>
PSU: 450W<br><br>
Overclock settings (done in BIOS)<br><br>
CPU<- ->HT speed: 4x<br>
????CPU<- ->HT width: 16up, 16down<br>
CPU spread spectrum: disabled<br>
SATA spread spectrum: disabled<br>
HT spread spectrum: disabled<br>
RAM: clocked down from 667 to 533 (running at 601MHz after CPU clock increase)<br>
RAM timings: left at 4-4-4-12 etc<br>
RAM Voltage: 2.0v (was at 1.8v, but factory should be 2.0v, so I made it 2.0v)<br>
CPU frequency: 240<br>
CPU Clock Ratio: 10x<br>
CPU Voltage: +.05v (it is now 1.3000v)<br>
Robust Graphics Booster: Disabled<br>
????SB Voltage control: normal<br>
????NB/PCIE/HT link voltage: normal<br>
PCIE clock: 100MHz<br>
???Errta 94 Enhanced: auto (whatever the hell it is...)<br><br>
Very stable.<br><br>
The overclock I have at the moment is nice - it significantly outperforms a Dualcore 4400+, but I would like to get it up to around 2600MHz, and have heard of people that have. You can see I have left the RAM timings alone, and just lowered the RAM clock to from 667 to 533 to accommodate the CPU frequency increase of 40MHz. Ram is now running at 601MHz. All in all a very quick system. However, I know that these CPUs can go to at least 2600MHz, and I would like to do it to get the RAM closer to 667 again too.<br><br>
My problem is that as soon as I try to go over 240MHz, even just to 246, or 250, it boots up perfectly fast and fine <span style="text-decoration:underline;">untill</span> it gets to the black Windows loading screem (with the little blue bar "progress" bar etc). That screen VERY slowly fades into view, and sort of sits there. I don't see why it would be a RAM problem, as it hasn't even reached it's normal speed yet. It is also good ram, matched etc, with heat-sinks on it etc. I don't see how it could be a GPU problem either, as it is a good card, and the PCIE is locked at (default) 100MHz. What is going on with it.<br><br>
My secondary problem is that there is hardly any info (when googling etc) on my Motherboard or BIOS. It says on the box it is "Austrailias most reccommended Motherboard", yet no-one seems to know it exists! I have plenty of overclocking options available in the BIOS, but they are labled so strangely. For example, I don't have a FSB or a HT multiplier, but I have a CPU<- ->NB Speed option. I found out it's the same thing, just with a new name. Great. But what is a CPU<- ->HT width? Or a Errta 94 Enhanced? NO info on the net so far!!! Where is my RAM divider? What is it called now? So many questions!!!<br><br>
Please help with what you can. I might even post some pics of all the BIOS options, so we can get the ball rolling on this type of setup, and the new(?) definitions.

I can you a bit:<br>
CPU/HT Width is how many "lanes" you want to use for the CPU to communicate with the Northbridge, so you possibly might want to use 8 lanes later on to prevent interference with lanes.<br>
I have no idea about Errta 94 Enhanced though.<br><br>
Your mobo doesn't either seem memorable from me.<br>
My opinion would be to reduce the CPU <-> HTT Width to 8, or lower the HTT multiplier to 3x or possibly 2x.

Any ideas on what causes the startup screen slowdown when I increase above 240MHz? Or what I could try to solve it?<br />

The Mobo itself has some bizzare default settings too - my RAM, which has default timings of 4-4-4-12, was originally set by the mobo to 5-5-5-15. And it set the RAM voltage to 1.8v, when it's default should be 2.0v. I corrected these settings, but it makes me wonder what else is underclocked by the Mobo by default.<br />

Does anyone also know what default voltage my GFX card should be set at? The card runs without producing any errors, but I have a replacement one coming, as it laggs out badly on some games when running 1024 x 768 and settings on medium - this is quite a powerful card for gaming, and shouldn't be doing this. Some games even perform poorly on 800 x 600! I am wondering if perhaps it is not faulty, just under clocked or under powered by the Mobo. Before anyone asks, I have all my drivers fully up to date, and have even tried older ones too.<br />

Come on guys! This surely can't be too hard for you experienced OC'ers. Any help or constuctive suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Show off your OC knowledge and problem solving skills!

Well the motherboard settings there are a default for MOST memory out there, just not really high performance ones. For example my ram runs at 5T normally and 1.8v so those defaults would be perfect.<br><br>
Secondly, your video card isn't as great as you think it should be, it's just a basic mainstream card sorry. I could've picked on up on sale at Staples a week ago for $90 CAD.<br><br>
I'm stuck at a 2.4Ghz wall aswell so I cant help there. It doesn't matter if I'm at 1.3v or 1.7v on my CPU it will not break 2.36Ghz <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/frown.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Frown">

I don't find any performance drop when i lower my HTT.

Penicilyn - I would have thought that Mobo's auto-detect the RAM stuffed into them, and adjust the settings accordingly. Doesn't most hardware have a way of identifying itself to the PC? Also, living in NZ, we tend to get left behind on most things, sometimes by up to a year or more. No-one here had even seen a 512MB GFX card before. So while it might not be the best card around, I did my homework on it and it should still be slightly out-performing a 6600GT. 15 fps in QUAKE 4 (when lighting effects or machinery is going on) with settings at high (not Ultra) 800x600 and 2x AA is NOT even what reviewers are getting with this card. Don't even THINK about telling me that this is the best that the card can do! Even my old FX5200 could do beter than that.<br />

As for not breaking 2.36, keep trying - I have already gotten to 2.4, but I saw reviews (3600+ and 3800+) that had gone to at least 2.8 stable. But like I said in the first post, I can't decypher the damn BIOS terms to find and change some settings. Also, it's the windows startup screen that has problems with further OCing, suggesting (to me) GFX not CPU. Any ideas?<br />

NrGx - Quake 4. I've patched to 1.2, so it now has the dualcore patch in it, etc. I'm the hardwareOC benchmark1.3 with it, to get my fps figures.<br />

Keep it coming people! Constructive suggestions on things to actually try would be great, and perhaps a little more helpful than "you can't do it" etc. I've researched it this far, and know it can be done, but I don't know how - mainly due to the strange BIOS terms. If someone has the same mobo as me, it would be great to hear from them too.

</div>These can cause headakes at high HTT speeds. If you can overvolt even by a bit the SB&the HT link you may gain some aditional headroom. As I see it you can stick with the HT multi @4x as you're still below the limit of 1000MHz. <br />

At that frequency you should also have some more volts in the CPU. That CPU reallly needs more than stock voltage to reach that kind of speed.<br />
<br />
And that 450W psu, what are it's specs? I'm particulary curious what are the +12V amps and how many +12V rails does it have.

</div>You're partly true on that one. What it actually does, is that it sets for SPD Timings, which is set by the manufacturer, which knows what the memory is able to do at stock volts. You can't "integrate" the volts into the SPD Chip, meaning that if you had ie. 3-3-3-8 at 2.5v, and 2.5-2-2-6 at 3.0v, it would automatically take 3-3-3-8, because 2.5V is the standard voltage for DDR (1.8V for DDR2).

Well, Quake 4 is a pretty challenging title. I can't max it out on 1280 res. SO I'm sorry, but the 7600GS just wouldnt be upto it.

Some things to consoder.<br>
1. The mention of voltage stability and what your PS's 12v= rails amperage is.<br>
2. Disable anything that says "Spectrum"<br>
3. What are your full load temps?

Could any of these troubles be because the chipset is a 6100, not a top overclocker?<br />

The GFX card problem has been solved - the dodgy buggers at ASUS had given me a 7300GS 512, flashed to SEEM like a 7600GS. Very shoddy. I noticed it while using Everest - it identified itself as a 7600GS, but noted the chip ID was a 7300GS. That also explained why it only had 270MHz (540MHz effective) ram speed on it. I got a real 7600GS, and instantly noticed the difference when running a benchmark. Also, everest reported the ram speeds at 440Mhz (920MHz effective -something like that-). Which was great untill I left the system idling and un-attended for 30mins, after it had been running all day (net surfing etc, nothing hard on the system). Came back to a black screen and a stuffed GFX card! Oh boy. I didn't even get to play a game! ANOTHER replacement on the way. Hopefully this one will be a real 7600GS AND work properly.<br />

So - GFX card problem solved.<br />

All "spectrum" stuff I have already turned off. Temps under load - max it has ever got to is 51C.<br />

dragosmp - I have already upped the voltage from 1.25v - 1.30v. Do you think it still might need more?<br />

Ill get back to you on the Power Supply, as I'll need to go find out what you mean by "rails", and I'm not sure how much amps etc it puts out. Go go Google!<br />
