im on a really tight budget and im making a pc on newegg and i have 2 choices.

the amd phenom 2 940 @ 3.0ghz +gtx 285 @675mhz OR
the intel quad 9550 @2.83+gtx 280 @602mhz..

im keeping these cpu's at stock. since i have no idea how to overclock.
which one would be better only for gaming?

who says after you build this pc you won't want to learn to overclock?

and to be honest.....I am pretty sure that comparison is quite close. I think what decides this one is if your an amd or intel guy....

Well make sure you find yourself an nVidia board then if you want to run SLI with those cards.

no sli.. i prefer the best single card solution. or upgrade to a 295 in the future.

check now i edited sorry X/
the cpus are similar in terms of performance. it's the gpu that will make the difference in gaming.

so the amd build will be a smarter choice.

and since you won't sli, this is the cheapest good overclocking mobo, with the best amd chipset out there:
