budget issue
i'd go for the phenom II 920 really, slightly cheaper, overclocks well or so i've heard which will improve performance?
i'd go with the 920. i have the AM3 phenom II 810. overclocked from 2.6 to 3.35 very easily completely stable with stock cooler(from my old phenom 9600, much better than the one that comes with the 810) and it only reaches 55c tops at full load
PHII 920 = True Quad Core and is at 45nm.

Q6600 is 2 C2D 'glued' together on the same die, plus they are 65nm.

PHII and the C2Qs are about even clock for clock, with the expection of certian programing algarythms (SP) such as Interger where Intel takes the lead. To make up for that almost all AMD CPUs have 30%-60% lower latencies.

So I say go for the PHII 920.
bump
i7 is the only system that is worth considering than a ph2.

so ph2
PII all the way unless the Q6600 is a good overcloker.
Neither, spend the $20 more for the Phenom II 940 if you are considering the Q6600.If $20 is too much extra
..... the Phenom II 920 i guess.

Phenom II X4 920 in this case unless a low VID (1.22x) Q6600.
