:swearing:Hi there i brought a pc for my GF a little while back maybe 8months and went like a charm bout 3-4 months ago i put 2gb dual channel ram and a 500w psu and it went like crap and slowed right down i reinstalled windows with several differnt copies 64 and 32 bit thay all went slow i changed the parts back and i made it a little faster but still not wat it used to be ths specs are

gigabyte m61pme-s2
amd athlon 4800x2
2gb 667 kingston> was 2gb corsair ddr 800 xms2-dhx
450w generic psu> was 500w solytech
160gb seagate barracuda 7200.9 sata
stock cooling
on board GPU
i tryed putting in a new gpu but made no differance i think it might be the motherboard but i dont want to buy a new 1 and its not the problem plz help

thanks Sikk66

maybe its the new ram or psu? work backwards, try different ram.
If the PSU has impact on the speed, then it could be a bad PSU. I never heard of Solytech and generic PSU's usually aren't great either. On the other hand, it's only using an onboard GPU right? So it draws very little power.
when you changed RAM, did you clear the CMOS?
i tryed the ram and psu in anouther pc and they work fine the ram is suppoted by that Motherboard and i did clear the cmos and would A 550w coolermaster be sufficnt i put a 9600gt 512mb sparkle in there
it might be a case of a dying motherboard or cpu.
Sounds like you might have zap fried somethings with static electricity. Did you ground yourself before going to town on the parts?

If the parts work fine in another computer, then the likely cause is the mobo (as others have stated) the CPU is unlikely... they're pretty tough. Check the mobo for bulging and/or leaking caps (haha, at work yesterday we had two rigs die, both from blown caps. One of them was a strange one to go, while on the other one, all of the MOSFETS were blown).

Is the computer on a surge protector?

Did you poke around in the BIOS and see what the ram settings were?

Oh, and yes, a 550w PSU should be fine for a 9600GT.

One last thing. Could you possibly pay slightly more attention to your spelling and punctuation in the future? I can understand you, but I had to read through it a few times to make sure I knew what was going on. Its just that its alot easier to help out when you can tell exactly what is going on

Thanks, and good luck man, I hope you get it figured out.

Sikk66, can you explain in better detail what went to "crap" and what kind of "slow down" issues you started experiencing?

Good luck

Sikk66, according to your first post it sounds like you've tried reinstalling Windows multiple times. I'd suggest now running a diagnostic on your memory. Download memtest86+, burn the .iso to a CD (as a image) and boot to it. Run tests 5 and 8 each for at least 15 - 20 minutes. We need to run this diagnostic to rule out any memory issues.

I noticed in your first CPU-Z screen shot you are 100Mhz overclcked. The stock speed of a 5200+ X2 should be 2.6Ghz and not 2.7Ghz. Are you trying to overclock or run at stock settings? For stock settings change the processor multiplier to 13x (13x * 200Mhz = 2600Mhz). I'd also run your memory at it's factory speed of 400Mhz. Right now it's currently set to 375Mhz which is not a problem but for troubleshooting purposes let's run everything at stock.

Set everything to stock and lets see if your issues reappear.

Let us know

Good luck

Hangemhi, woohoo I didn't know that

Thank you for clarifying

It is a bit odd though that his memory frequency is below stock

Good luck

Good luck

If its at the stock 13.5 multi, then that will make the ram underclock, due to how the memory divider is selected. All half multi AMD's have underclocked ram from the factory
