Can AMD cards be used for, like, video or graphics rendering? Outside games, I mean. CUDA on NVIDIA cards can be used for rendering, right? Does AMD have something similar?

I can Render with my cards just fine.

AMD cards have OpenCL and some rendering softwares support that. so you would need to check if a render software can use CUDA or OpenCL.

As far as I know there are very few renderers that use GPU.

Gelato is the only one I can even think of, and that's nvidia only.

AMD/ATI also has Stream which is equivalent to CUDA for nVidia.

so that stream technology can also be used for rendering? and why would they use OpenCL and stream? seems a bit overkill to develop 2 times the same thing


can it be that they switched to OpenCL from this stream thing? in the wiki is something mentioned :
