did mention earlier about being unable to go AM2 as it will be too expensive. also i have taken a look on the Abit website and it doesn't say it will support Opteron it just says it supports dual core athlon 64 and FX CPU, doesnt say any models or anything but it doesnt say opteron, i am just hoping someone has applied the same combination together and have gotten some results.

Look in the bios downloads for the mobo then it will tell you if it is able to take it

As far I cuold see, the ABIT website just does not mention the word 'Opteron' at all... I don't know it will work, but lean toward that it will.

Well if it can support a dual core then it must be able to support an opty since they were made before x2's

The Abit should work Fine with he Opty series ( However your post states it isnt..Pitty ). However a BIOS update maybe needed to support perhaps a later one or to improve overall performance. An Opteron 165 IMO would be better than a 3800X2. Not to mention the 3800 X2 has pretty much ceased production and is very hard to get in most places.

When it comes to your RAM get a 2x1gb Kit as 4x512 will hurt performance overall.

I don't know if it supports Opteron as i don't own one but if you send me one i'll test it with pleasure

All i can tell you is, if your goal is overclocking forget it about it! I can send you different results if you want.

EDIT : Oh, forgot about the "not going to overclock" option lol, other then the board's very small OCing potential it's a great board. I couldn't be more pleased if i wouldn't overclock. I'm getting an Ultra-D tomorrow, if you want the board, i can let it go cheap ^^

I have a Toledo 4400+, lightly used, I overclocked it to 2.6GHz for a day, then brought it back down to stock 2.2 and kept it at that till now. I've been using a TT Big Typhoon so hasn't been very hot, ever. If you'd like to buy my 4400+, 2GB of OCZ DDR 600 Platinum Ram, and DFI LanParty mobo please message me.
