Are you buying? What will it be used with, etc? Please fill out your computer spec's by going to the "User CP>Edit System Spec's" Section. You also need to think about cooling and thermal paste. The ram, motherboard and PSU are also important matters of overclocking. If you go for cheap expect a cheap overclock.

What is the BEST barton step?? Is it the aqyha?

I've actually never been so amazed...tell me if I'm worth upgrading...right now, I have a crappy mobo, heatsink and barley any thermal paste(generic)....soltek sl75frv and a thermalright volcanoe 7+...right now, I'm idoling a barton [email protected] degrees celcious, and its overclocked to 2375mhz & 380 mhz FSB voltage is 1.825....I can't go over 1.85 with the mobo or 400 mhz...the connection between the cpu and the heatsink is weak, flimsy, and no thermal paste....once i get the $15 artic silver, either a swiftech mcx462-v, a thermalright SI-97A, a thermalright SLK-900u or whatever, or anythign else BIG that will fit a asus deluxe nforce2...I think I'll be in business.

SO thinking the temperature is 62c with my circumstances, I'm guessing it'll drop with the best artic silver, monster heatsink, and 120MM fan, maybe 33c...thats 2375 mhz 190 FSB...what do you think i could OC to...2500 220 fsb & 1.95-2.0 vcore???

Do you think I could go that far, or even farther? is it worth getting a 3200 400 mhz AQYHD barton??

What is THE BEST heatsink for socket A?

I don't even think the crappy heatsink/fan is running at its highest setting.

And is it to my understanding that a barton2800 running wiht those circumstances at 2.375 ghz is really amazing?

The 3200 Barton will be a nice upgrade, and if it's a good chip it should be able to do 2.4-2.6ghz...just depends.

But in my opinion, you would be much happier with an entry level Athlon 64, as it is much faster/mhz and is not too expensive at all for a 3000+ or a 3200+.

But if you do want to stay skt A, then a good heatisnk is the Thermalright SI or SP97, or if you can't find them I find the Volcano 12 to be a great little heatsink for skt A, it got my Barton 3000+ to 2.65ghz

You also want to get a NF2 mobo, The Asus A7V8X-E deluxe is a great board, so is the Abit NF7-S version 2 and also the other NF2 skt A board they have(NOT the S2 version!)
