This was not designed as an intentional example, but go to
http://timshomepage.net/comic first in Firefox/Chrome/Opera/Safari, etc. Click on any menu item.

Edit: The adjacent menu items are supposed to disappear on hover.

Next try the same thing in IE 8.

Inadequacies?
- Incomplete support for object element
- No support for opacity CSS property
- Still funky css positioning
- Poor support for z-index CSS property

And that's just on this page.

Firefox reference renderings:

That's why you don't use IE. It's always been inferior.
404-Not found.
Well, as long as alternatives have been around, it has been inferior, yes. It has always bugged me that people go for the default when better alternatives exist, and are more customizable, faster, and/or slimmer.

There's not a broken link on that page.

Edit: Wait, why are you using IE 6?

My personal opinion is that it is ******ed to use a web browser that doesn't work properly. Ignorance is one thing, but this page works perfectly in other browsers.

This isn't even a very complex web page, but there are multiple issues that are unacceptable. Most unacceptable is that Microsoft invented the object tag in the first place. Yet their browser doesn't follow the W3C spec for the element that they introduced.

Wow, that's one freaky set of menus. I don't think I've ever seen menus pop upward before.

Funny story. The provincial government maintains a database of property maps, but their database only works correctly in IE6 with an outdated version of Java. In theory, it might work with certain versions of Firefox, but I don't have the patience to go back and test them all to find one that works, and then teach my technophobic coworkers how to use it.

IE is one thing (no offense to the guy who's not a tard and can figure it out) but IE6 has very bad security issues.

Yeah, well, when I inherited this computer, it had over 1000 items identified as malware, because the last guy was a bit of a goofball.

Government and business really need to upgrade their old broken web applications to work in modern web browsers. Security and stability are other reasons.

IE 7 was released 3 years ago. IE 6 was released 8 years ago. Besides Windows XP, what kind of business uses third-party software that old?

I'm not talking about malware, I'm talking about IE's failure to fulfill it's primary purpose: to correctly render webpages. How much malware you get using it is irrelevant.

I get the same thing in IE 8

The main page where it's all blue in the body in other browsers shows 404 not found in IE8

This page opens like crap in FF 3.5.5 for me. Only difference is that the main area shows the 404 error in IE8. Seems like the site is a piece of garbage to begin with.
I can't believe anyone still uses IE anymore... sigh

I don't care what your preference is, but don't use IE! Use Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Safari, etc... There is no reason to use IE.

What does "like crap" mean?

Functionally it should work fine. If you have Javascript disabled, the menu will do funny things, but it works.

Blame CARIS Software for writing crappy code that isn't capable of working in a tabbed environment? Blame the government for not paying CARIS to patch it? Blame the people for not pressuring the government to get it's act in gear?

I was talking to the guy who was complaining about how insecure it is.

How is it broken? The adjacent menu items are supposed to disappear when you mouseover a menu.
