Right now, they are only worth what people are willing to pay, with them you buy a certain unit of PPD to help the folding cause. To convert selfish miners to folders.

That's all for now, but it's really big imho.

Quote:

Ok so I've been thinking about this for a while and even though I know very little about curecoin, and the whole mining industry in general...

I still want to invest in this idea, simply for the reason that the "you're helping a cure" folding mentality is combined with this mining craze. I think it has potential...would we call this a penny stock?

My main question is, let's say I have 1000 dollars to throw at it. Would my money be obviously better invested by buying coins outright in the market? Or better invested buying GPU(s)?

My second question is, is this a special type of stock, or will any broker exchange usd for it? How does it become actual dollars exactly?

I know the questions are really noob. I've always wanted to get into it but never understood it enough. Never really understood what this super-computer network was "processing" in the first place. But if we're after a cure, it's just the push I needed to start...maybe it will be someone else's too.

Thanks for the help in advance.

You can buy cheap coins and sell them later for profit, or speculate with your own hardware, dedicating some gpu and cpu power to it.
I'd do both, buying gear for mining or folding is not a guaranteed profit, but it can be.

If you sold every curecoin you got right now, you'd be making 3.5usd per day, per r9 290, roughly.
Me personally, I'm holding them till they get to 0.01btc per unit or more. And even if they do, I will only sell what I need to cover power costs and pay some bills.

You can monitor price at www.poloniex.com, read this site for more info: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=603757.0

how's this any different than Gridcoin?

I like the general concept and the idea of getting more compute pointed towards folding. However, I wish there was a way you could give them a username and passkey and still fold for a different team. What difference would it make? I like folding for OCN and team competition.

The problem with this is you would be getting paid to compete in a donation competition. Curecoin team is not competing in any competitions. I am sure this was part of the stipulations involved when creating the curecoin team otherwise it would be un-fair to other people not getting paid to fold.

Quote:

Gridcoin uses a very small amount of power for boinc. Curecoin uses ASIC power to solidify the blockchain while GPU/CPU use 100% folding power to get paid in curecoin. By far a larger amount of resources being used for folding.

OFF TOPIC it would be great to see some of you guys in the #curecoin chat in freenode. More support is always good. Lots of voting and community effort on this one. So why exactly does this curecoin have value?

It honestly seems more like a pyramid scheme then anything else. The currency itself has no useful purpose that isn't already filled by other currencies (other than to encourage folding). My point is why would someone on an open exchange give something of value in exchange for a curecoin?

The only answer I can come up with is ignorance.

Unless I am missing a key point about some innovation of this "currency."

Why did anyone invest in bitcoin when it first came out? All it takes is enough faith to push it to the top. Its hard to find a reason to invest in any crypto at least when you invest in cure your investing in a coin thats power goes to something good. The development team is active im sure the future is bright for cure and there will soon be other reasons to hold cure.

I like anything that will encourage people to stop "mining" coins and waste power on unproductive hashing.

So far I've folded 22 work units and I have about 2.1 Cure showing up on bullions pool. Does this sound right? I know there's a lot of factors and I fold slow with this GPU, but does it more or less sound in line with how many coins I should be receiving?

Also, I know there is plenty to read, but is there a quick easy answer or link to the best card for this type of mining? Price/coins earned ratio being the biggest thing, not so much efficiency as 1/3 of my electricity is free. What is the quickest card to pay off doing this type (I don't know what ascii and all that jargon is for example) of processing? Quick answer or link please? I want to set up a few computers, such as my mom's.

Thanks for the help.

Also, I found plenty of places to trade BTC for CURE. Do I have to BUY BTC first if I don't have any to BUY CURE, or is there a way to buy CURE cash on a market directly?

Can someone report how much have the payouts for the same PPD increased now that "difficulty" has fallen?

Up almost 50% for me

Not me. For some reason my payout has been cut in 1/2? I'm guessing more people have joined the pool?

I'm definitely getting way more than I used to as the PPD of the pool has decreased. Are you sure you haven't changed anything? Are you getting the same PPD as before?

Alzheimer's

Cancer

Huntington's

Parkinson's

You have all heard of them, some of the worst diseases known to man. Many of you have probably lost loved ones or have had to or currently have to watch them suffer from these diseases.

There has been for some time research going on at Stanford University. Using GPU/CPU compute power to study and "fold" proteins that could lead to potential cures and understandings of the above mentioned diseases. This will take many years to accomplish and has been a growing community of volunteers. Now times have changed and Curecoin is born.

Most of us cant afford or choose not to fold due to lack of money, unaware of folding or just plain greed. Now even the greedy can give back with CureCoin. Start folding today and you could be the one extra piece that saves a life. If there was ever a coin to join together on this is it. If there was ever a coin to bring good to the world this is it. Stop mining new coins, stop mining useless coins, STOP MINING. Its time to fold for a cause, and maybe get a bit in a return to cover costs.

In December 2013 bitcoin hashrate was a estimated average of about 10,000,000 ghash.

At that time the power consumption of bitcoin was estimated to cost $15 million dollars EVERYDAY!

Blockchain.info no longer releases power consumption information.

Currently Bitcoin hashrate is about 80,000,000gh and although some machines have gotten better (more hash per watt) the consumption still increases.

This does not even include any of the alt-coins many of us mine today.

You do the math, Stop wasting power! CureCoin uses that power towards real scientific use!

Even if using ASIC to mine the sha side of CureCoin you are still supporting a great cause. Pull out those ant-miners and donate some power for once instead of wasting it!

There has never been a bigger reason to dedicate to a coin. Not pure speculation, but LIFE CHANGING effects. Folding is now a paying gig and there should and will be millions jumping on board. Check it out you could be the one to save a life.

This will forever be the best opportunity for the mining community to do something good. Please join us in finding the cure. Never stop folding!

Also as a side benefit folding takes much less power and heat then standard scrypt mining. So not only will you be supporting a great cause but your power bill wont be so bad either!

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=603757.0 for more information and to start folding for Cure!!

(P.S. I am in no way affiliated with CureCoin nor the development team. I dont have a ton of CureCoin (20 total as of 5/16/2014) as I don't have much hash nor money to invest. I have been around folding since the beginning and have always been too poor to afford the extra power bill. This coin has been a savior to give me something I can use in return for something I always wanted to give anyways.)

Or i can continue to mine what's profitable.
