My current computer is a store bought i3-2120 a couple of years ago for under $500 and plays 1080p on low/medium settings. Now that multi-thread is looking to make a bigger push into the gaming sector I am looking to build a good gamer that can play 1080p ultra, and future proof for 4k games. My current budget will be $1500 and then 18-24 months from now to add another $1500 in gpu/ssd upgrades to make 4k possible.

I bought a used 3570K, GA-Z77MX-D3H, Fractal Design Arc Mini, CM T4, and a pair of SP120s for $355.

I build a PC every 2-3 years, each build is about $800-1000. So it's not too bad.

I spent around 6k last year when I built my new primary rig. The 29 Noctua fans alone were around $600

I usually drop about 600-800 on a new video card each year. This year though, I have probably dropped closer around 1000. Nothing like a new 1TB SSD and a 970.

$100 or so....I put down $1000 when I a build a new system and I expect to not have to upgrade it for at least 5 years....then it's just a GPU upgrade every few years. Course I don't game at the resolutions a lot of users here do nor do I do anything that would require such spending. I horde my cash up to one day buy my own home....rate I'm going in another 4 years I can buy my house and some land in CASH.

Looks like the poll needs more sub $1k options :)
I upgrade one part each year with a $200-300 budget. My original build cost $700 in 2010 and now the only original part that remains is the case, and I am doing a scratch case build this summer

Each year I basically got the best I could for the part of the year in that price range. Has been a great way to do it for someone cheap like me. It also helps that my birthday is on Christmas so the upgrade usually doesn't even come out of my pocket
