Answered: Close Thread Option?

I was thinking.. maybe the ability to close your own thread? I know you can do so in the for sale section, but how about other places? People make threads asking for help on a certain issue and after its solved they can have the option to close it themselves to prevent further (sometimes useless) posting?

Just a suggestion, maybe another benefit for Overclocked accounts?

It has been suggested in the past many times in the past.

The option was never really accepted as a good idea. As mainly, the user that would like to close his or her thread is able to report the main post saying "Please close at the request of the OP" and the thread will be closed.

There is also a bit of room for exploitation here. When someone doesn't like the replies they are getting or doesn't agree and they want to close the thread and start a new one.

This is the primary reason we do not allow regular members control of thread closings outside of the Marketplace. Additionally, we like to, as much as is reasonable, make it possible for users who come in from search engines to tag follow-up onto an existing thread (which is especially useful with things like case mods or build logs).

As Chipp has mentioned, we will never allow our users to close them manually. Before anybody complains - yes, requesting it to be closed via a report actually does work. However, if we deem the thread as an inappropriate candidate for closure, we will not close it.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
