I'm in need of some help with this sound card and Battlefield 2142. The card works fine but some sounds are messed up in the game. When I'm playing as infantry and shooting weapons it's perfectly fine, sounds great. The problem is when I'm in vehicles. If I'm looking forward while driving/shooting it's perfectly normal, but if I look to the sides or rear and do anything (drive/shoot) it's like the sounds are muted or near that point. You can barely hear anything. Any ideas on how I can fix this or make it better? Here's my settings:

Battlefield 2142 Settings

Creative X-Fi
Ultra High
Enable EAX: Yes

Creative Audio Control Panel
Game Mode

Speakers: 5.1
SVM: SVM Off

EAX Effects: Enabled
EAX Effects: 0.0 dB

X-Fi CMSS-3D: Enabled
Upmix Mode: Stereo Xpand
Upmix: Auto
Stereo Envelopment: 50%

X-Fi Crystalizer: Enabled
Amount: 80%

Use Built-In Decoded (Side Speakers and Rear Speakers)
Dolby Digital (Dynamic Range: Full, Pro Logic: On, Digital EX: On)
DTS-ES (DTS-ES Matrix: On)

Thanks!

It sounds as if you have a set of 5.1 speakers and that you have 2 speakers chosen in the game, or that you have 2 speakers and that you have chosen 5.1 in the game. If you have 4 or 5 to 1 speakers, do you have your matrix button pressed? This would try to upmix sounds that are already in 5.1.

I have a 5.1 setup. I'm not sure what is chosen in game, never ran across a speaker configuration setting there. Yes I do have the matrix button pressed, I'll try it out without matrix on, thanks.

The reason I spoke of the matrix button, is that you have 5.1 speakers. So you are trying to take stereo sound and upmix it to 5.1. Then if you happen to have CMSS-3d enabled to, it is going to double upmix. Please let us know your results.

So instead of creating a new topic I thought I would bring this one back. I have another problem with the above setup (Matrix Mode is OFF). This time it's with headphones plugged in. When I plug my headphones in (to the little volume control device) it puts them into surround sound, I think, because whenever I get into a tank and look to the left I only get sound coming from the right and vice versa. Any ideas?
Press Matrix=ON when you have your headphones plugged in?

people still play bf2142? i wonder when that patch will actually come out and i might stop playing mw2 for a bit
When you plug your headphones in, it sounds as if they are going back to 2 channel with CMSS-3d. It sounds like they are in 5.1 mode and you only have 2.1 with your headphones. You need to make sure that after you plug your heaphones in, run the game, go to audio setup, and there choose headphones or 2.1 and try it again. The problem is the same as you had before, you are playing 5.1 sound but there are only two speakers (headphones) you need to change the sound output in the game's configuration to reflect the change. The CMSS-3d in the creative control panel will take the 2.1 sound and make it sound great in those headphones you just have to give them the right input.
