Downgrading my big ATX case down to a Mini ITX. And I was planning on re-using a Node 304 case but I was wondering if there are any smaller cases that can maybe house four to six 2.5" SSDs or HDDs (since most Mini ITX mobos have 4-6 SATA headers). This PC acts as a router/server so no graphics card, just a PCI-e card for additional Ethernet ports, and single core i3 (dual core model, one core disabled).
Any alternatives? I'm looking for a really small RAID-like enclosure that can run FreeBSD for router tasks and ZFS.
If you don't mind it being scared out of its mind as soon as you walk into the room, the Lian Li PC-Q30X has 4 2.5" bays and is a strange case to look at. It also comes in silver as can be seen here.
You can use 3.5" to 2.5" brackets, several of them fit two 2.5" drives in a single 3.5" bay, so if you could find a case with 2-3 3.5" drives that'd work. Or possibly a 5.25 bracket as well that fits 4 though I'm not sure of super cheap ones.
