Any Suggestions?

i recently installed 2x 2 gig ddr2 1066mhz ram onto my p35 neo2 fr/fir motherboard, im running vista ultimate for this system

on the boot up it registers as having 4096mb ram and even on the hardware description it displays 4gigs

but in the"performence" section of "task manager" the "total physical memory" only shows 3070mb

ive selected the maximum memory through "system configuration"(msconfig), but the maximum it will let me select is 3072mb

any suggestions?

If you wanted, you could try a free linux distro for some 64 bit goodness. Mint/Ubuntu aren't too terribly hard to get a handle on. Hop back into windows for gaming?

Believe me, I'm no linux fanboy, but if you bought the 32 bit, it would be the cheaper/faster way to move up to a 64 bit OS to recognize your ram.

No not really.

If someone mentions PAE that only works for applications designed to make use of not normal user type apps. And it causes a decrease in performance on standard apps. It is my understanding that the types of apps that might make use of PAE are server based and database.

So for all the rest of us 32bit means 2^32 which is 4GB of which some is used by hardware other than RAM.

Edit: Doesn't M$ offer upgrade to 64 disk for like $10? I have seen the info posted on this site. I don't think it was a limited time offer or anything. Hopefully this helps or someone knows the link?

I know exactly what you're talking about, but I can't seem to find it on the forum here.
