I am still having the issue where I can't boot if my other HDD is plugged in. I'd like to access the files on it.

Can I make Windows 7 scan for hard drives after it has already booted?

1. Boot into Windows.
2. Plug in second HDD.
3. Go to Device Manager.
4. Refresh list.

I just refreshed and it's kind of working.

I think this drive might be dead...

EDIT: Clicking on "My Computer" loads my main HDD quickly, but the second one is going very slowly. It's been 3 or four minutes and it hasn't loaded completely.

Also, going into Disk Manager takes the same amount of time. It's "connecting to virtual disk service".

For closure, the drive was absolutely dead. I wasn't able to recover anything from it. It's on the way to WD for an RMA right now.

I am testing drive now and it was running chkdsk, I canceled it and it will not let me into disk from my computer. I think it is dead or almost it sound funny it is a wd 160GB SATA. The hot swap thing worked as stated perfectly.
