Anyone else noticed AVG free acting odd?

As of today (11/08/08) AVG has done an update on both my desktop and my wife's laptop. Now its reporting a whole slew of files that have Trojan horses in them.. A bunch of false positives. All seem to be in game files.

I posted some stuff on AVG's forums and they promptly deleted it saying it was no help. (even though it was attached to another user's thread who was also having the same issue). So its looking like Im done with AVG now and I have to look at something else... Any suggestions? Avast?

I have AVG on all of my PCs. Not one issue.

Well apparently after today's update users of Notepad++ are reporting that AVG is saying the uninstaller has a Trojan virus as well. Try that, because its known that it hasn't. Its seems to be reporting a lot of False Positives after today's update. Their answer?... turn off Real time scanning for the time being... Wonderful.

So what do you use then?... Im looking to replace AVG with something else as long as its not Norton or ZoneLabs or Mcaffee.. preferably free or something that doesn't need to be re-bought EVERY DAMN YEAR

I've never had AVG report anything at all beyond a few cookies. I'm using Avast right now, simply because I needed 64-bit.

Which AVG (7.X or 8.X)? I have not had anything like this pop up yet.
I had some issues on 1 computer a while back updating AVG versions and am trying Avast on it. It is OK (just has an annoying ad screen every so often when booting up).
