Like i said AMD only i don't want him to throw his money away. And they sell AMD laptops for 450 at some places anyways so if he was going that high I am sure he would spring for the usable laptop.

I have one that you could probably get for about $300 , I paid $800 for it about 3 yrs ago

AMD 754 64 bit 3200
1gb Dual Channel
80gb SATA 7200RPM
15.4" Widescreen
Nvidia GO440 64mb Dedicated

Worked nicely untill I took it apart to get the screen

Its a Compaq R3000

Ebay link for an Inspiron 1501

On a side note, I assure you, he won't "throw his money away" with an intel-platform laptop.

Key words : Well and Built.

Most Intel machines are slapped together which is usually why they aren't very good. They are build to be cheap and catch the eye allot of the time pointing out the flaw in the machine as something good. An Intel machine can be well built but companies have completely destroyed my trust in any Intel machine unless i know the exact specs on every last part in the machine and know they work together and work together well.

Way too expensive but VERY nice find.

So the screen doesn't work or isn't there? =\\

You could try Craigslist.com that way you can at least see the comp before you buy.

That's not true, the AMD machines are built by the same companies and factories as the Intel ones
I really don't know what you're talking about.. an Intel Core Duo or C2D based machine will run faster and cooler then an AMD based dual core, and use less battery power.

I doubt your C2D will hit idle 30c on stock heatsink and fan at 2.85Ghz... Although im pretty sure the 6000+ uses more power then the E6700... i might be wrong i know the 6000+ uses a max of 120w.

And they do use more power then Turions. The biggest reason Turion laptops are generally weaker on the higher end is because companies won't load them up with the things they need and keep them low end foolishly. Alienware does do a good job with the AMD high end laptops though i suggest looking at that. Alienware also agrees with me boldly proclaiming an AMD laptop to be their best laptop last time i was on that site.
As for mobiles on the heat and power consumption Turions are great but it is hard to find them at high clocks, although Alienware has them megaclocked on their site from stock or they overclock them one either way its very nice. Besides were not talking C2D were talking low end which Intel has absolutely nothing decent on the low end since the Core 2 series are the only CPU Intel has that is even remotely bearable compared to the competition.

what do you mean throw his money away. AFAIK for $450 you wont get much better of an AMD than you will an Intel......lol what a fanboy

Intel laptops are about 400x better. However AMD, like always, is better on the low end.

If you can find a used Pentium M laptop for that price on eBay, take it. AMD Mobile chips (Turion) are essentially jokes.

first of all, it isnt 'his' C2D. he doesn't have a c2d lol

AND

he is talking about a laptop C2D 'merom' so all your arguments are thus nullified (except the energy consumption)

i doubt you could overclock any turion to near 2.85 ghz in a laptop and have it idle at 30C

OT: Isn't the joke "Ubuntu is an African word meaning "I can't install Debian"'?

Please try to be a bit more realistic.
