I have a Rampage III Extreme and a 3ware 9750-4i installed on PCI-E 2.0 Slot 4. I have two WD 600GB Vrap's hooked up and both are classified as Single Drives. I have FSX installed on one and all my FSX photo scenery installed on the other. Everything is working fine.

Everytime I start SpeedFan I get two 3ware10K Event ID 11 error codes in Event Viewer. Everytime I start Aida64 I get the same 3ware10K Event ID 11 error codes, but instead of 2 it is 12. This happens each and everytime I start either of these. I can start HWM Pro, Asus AI Suite, Asus PC Probe II, CPU-Z and RealTemp and these error codes never show up. I think that it may have something to do with the 9750-4i being on the PCI-E bus and SpeedFan and Aida64 reading ROG data off the PCI-E bus, but it is just a hunch. HWM Pro reads the same data as Aida64. SpeedFan reads the same data as Aida64, just not as much.

Attached are a couple of screenshots of Event Viewer. Even though the two HD's are hooked to Port1 and Port2 on the 9750-4i I still get the Port0 error codes with nothing hooked to Port0.

Now my question, can anyone with a 9750-4i download and run Speedfan and see if they get these error codes? I have contacted LSI Tech Support and their response after three weeks of emails back and forth is they are not really sure what is wrong and they will not try and duplicate the problem since my motherboard is not a server board.

Like I said, everything seems to be running fine, now I am just really curious if it can be duplicated.

i do have extyensive background with teh 9211, 9260 and 9265. not yours though. I also have extensive experience with the Areca controllers.

why am i blathering on LOL?

Speedfan can read smart data for drives "through" the areca controller. it can also detect the fan speed, and temps, etc for areca controllers.
this functionality does not exist on the LSI controllers.
my money says that is what is kicking off the error code. The Speedfan/AIDA are trying to poll the raid card, but it wont take.
i will try to reproduce, but cant right away, i am working on an article so everything is messed up right now.

I have a similar issue as you do. I have the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 rev 1, Core i7 920, 6 GB of Ram, and the 3 ware 9750-4i with 4 Western Digital R4's 1 TB in a raid 5. When ever I start to do a ton of multitasking my computer will lock up to the point that I have to do a hard reset. It took me a couple of days with my event viewer open to catch the error. I would get 5 to 6 3ware10k event ID 11 in my event viewer. Once I restarted my computer the event viewer would be clear of those errors. I have updated my 9750 with the latest firmware and even RMA'd the card, did a fresh install of Windows and still same problem. It is really bad trying to run SC2! I downloaded that speed fan and the minute I ran it I got 2 3ware10k errors but it did not lock up my machine like SC2 will. My machine had been running since December with zero problems. This problem surfaced its ugly head about the middle of July! And I have been bagging my head against the wall since!

Regarding your real problem, what are the chances that one or more of your HD's connected to the 9750-4i are causing the lockup and not the 9750-4i?

Very unlikely, 1. They are brand new Western Digital R4's. 2. I have check the health status of each one with western digital lifeguard utility. I have a Corsair Obsidian case; and thinking of ripping our the hot swappable PCB boards that sit between my drives and the controller! But I do agree with you I don't think its the controller!

I have two 3ware cards, a 9550sx and a 9500s, and I've never come across this problem. Do you have 3dm2 installed? If not, I'd suggest installing it and looking at the logs, I've found it to be very useful when it comes to getting per drive SMART data, but even more useful in terms of watching the actual behavior of the drives that smart doesn't mention.

I do have 3DM2 installed and it doe not log any errors.

Do you see anything abnormal when you check per drive SMART data in 3dm2?
If not, and you're not experiencing any issues, I would lean towards speedfan reading something incorrectly.

I've seen it report temperatures that are utter nonsense (subzero temps), and I just ignore that.

If you read the first reply to this thread by Computurd he already said that it was probably Speedfan and Aida64 polling the card and the card not responding.

You can also read the first reply by SrNefarious and he confirmed that he gets the same errors with starting Speedfan as I do so it is obviously something the way Speedfan/Aida64 poll the 9750-4i and the 9750-4i not responding or responding in a matter not expected/understood.

There is nothing wrong with the 9750-4i.

Awww shoot. You mean I was supposed to read the thread? OhwaitIdid.

One might assume that the usual response to errors showing up is to think that something might be wrong. Hence the suggestion to look and see if something is actually wrong, aside from speedfan being speedfan, which in my experience is a useful, but not always trustworthy tool.
