Source: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2019/05/apple-introduces-first-8-core-macbook-pro-the-fastest-mac-notebook-ever/

Apple updated MacBook Pro with faster 8th- and 9th-generation Intel Core processors, bringing eight cores to MacBook Pro for the first time. MacBook Pro now delivers two times faster performance than a quad-core MacBook Pro and 40 percent more performance than a 6-core MacBook Pro, making it the fastest Mac notebook ever.1 These new processors, combined with powerful graphics, the brilliant and colorful Retina display, super-fast SSDs, the Apple T2 Security Chip, all-day battery life and macOS, make MacBook Pro the world’s best pro notebook.
It's not a Ryzen chip.

Hi,
Sounds like a 9900k with hyper threading off.

Well that sounds expensive ;)

I wonder how it's going to throttle to manage all that heat...

That's the 9700K.

Getting 6 cores to work well with a limited TDP window is difficult enough. Adding another 2 cores is only going to make for more heat. This thing must be a single giant HSF with a keyboard glued to the top.

Word is they're already working on the firmware update to fix it.

Blast furnace. Zen 2 is going to obliterate it. Reminds me of Prescott days.

It's going to make the heat sink bigger :thumb:
Nah man, you don't need anything like a proper cooling solution, that's for chumps. You just keep making the chip run slower until it no....longer....thr.. Wait, what does throttling mean again?

Thank the ever-loving FSM. Touchscreens are disgusting, which could probably be overlooked if they didn't create so much cognitive dissonance, decreased productivity, and massive ergonomics problems at the same time.

I wouldn't use that on your lap for long, unless you're trying to overheat your giblets and kill your sperm count

That's kinda silly to think that firmware will fix a darn thing. Seriously, my laptop has issues cooling the 8750H and this is a full on gaming machine that's got twice the thickness of that Macbook. You'd have to be absurdly ridiculous to think you could cool that thing in anything but a high performance chassis. There are full videos showing off how poorly all of Apple's products handle their CPUs under any sustained load, even after doing full liquid metal repastes they still throttle to no end. So yeah, they're putting a 55w TDP CPU in a chassis that can barely handle a 25w chip. Good job. :p

Looked like they already issued a patch last week.
Aren't they the one complaining of a 40% hit in performance?

Intel is running out of fingers to cover the holes.

If you actually enable the migration, though it isn't a huge deal atm for consumer PCs.

Are there any details what Intel cpu is used? If its Whiskey Lake then it is shielded.

Engineering did not get the memo about this announcement. They were complaining about Intel just a few days ago.

Is Apple really going to switch to their own ARM design CPUs?
