Crashed the absolute hell outta my system. Worst Windows update I've experienced in Vista yet. Installed fine, wouldn't boot into windows. rebooted, booted to previous setting...crashed a couple more times.... finally got it where windows then configured those same 3 updates that caused the crash..

3 boots later and I was back up and running... just to shut down and reboot to XP x64 - which was my original goal because all I had wanted to do was play BF2 (lost install key - so can't put it on Vista, and EA support doesn't like getting back to me I guess).

And after all that, my favorite server (Dead Meat, 64 people - fun if you ever wanna play) only had like 20 people in it....booo

Uhmm maybe for like every OS in the world you could go to a website and read actual problem descriptions and see if they applied to your situation before just giving them permission to have their way with you and do whatever they want with your system?

And read post #4 LOL

Obviously in post 4 there was a problem. I've never had windows update screw me like that, and I install pretty much everything that applies to my system. You just bash windows for no good reason it seems.

It did the same thing to my system man... I was folding away, happy as a lark. I didn't check it until this morning around 7 or so. I guess our buddy DesertFox didn't read that you just forgot to turn the autoupdates off. Oh well, reading comprehension isn't for all of us.

This is the [email protected] section, lets please leave the OS fan boy arguments to the OS sections of the forum, thank you.

Same thing happend to me. Woke up, went to check fahmon, and the damn thing was froze, rebooted and it finished updating.

Frustrating isn't it...
Its funny this is mentioned, I let windows update do its thing by clicking on the power icon, which is set to hibernate and it had the install updates warning, next thing i know my pc is restarted waiting for me to login, and it had recovered from a serious error... First time ive ever had any real issue with vista updates...

What were the updates that were applied? I didn't even look at them this time around, it was late, and i had just finished some gaming. LOL!

Desertfox... troll elsewhere... several of the updates are security updates, go use your linux or some version of it , and ill use vista. Dont bash ours and we wont bash yours.

Im getting really tired of that kind of negative post on this forum...
Windows Update is very nice. Sure there are problems but there are problems with everything and Windows Update has very few. That said, I turn off the automatic install. I let it download them for me and then I tell it when to restart and install them.
Jason, I'm not bashing Windows at all... just that update... and I was bashing EA customer support if you really want to get picky....lol

or pickier... maybe he was talking about the other dude since he quoted him....lol

To input into argument about auto updates... I think they're a great idea and here is why:

Look at our audience here. Everyone here is good about updating, security - generally keeping healthy systems (minus the meat-heads putting systems in freezers... great post today on that!)..

But the general public is a different story. I work for a software company and see it all the time. Out of our thousands of customers, we still have crazy librarians using the DOS version of our software - it's 2009. Our software doesn't run the system, or affect your operations... however - your OS can.

So auto-updating everyone helps get them a step closer to closing the security gaps that XP, and it's predescessors had shown. If you don't force feed people, sometimes they won't eat - even if it's in their best interest.

With the way these viruses and malware spread - any attempt at closing as many security gaps within an OS and forcefully deploying it makes sense for the population as a whole....

So don't blame MS, blame the idiots who made these viruses such an everyday occurance that made this an inevitability.

No, blame MS for making a virus-prone platform that spawned a billion dollar virus and anti-virus industry. As far as I know, this has never been a problem on any OS.
I folded all last night AFTER I fixed the update.... so does that keep me relevant enough?

PS... I thought [email protected] mon would be more dynamic in showing me PPD....am I missing a setting or something to update it more frequently?

Does any other OS have a 90% market share? Didn't think so, you can troll elsewhere now.

There's options under the preferences to adjust that.

If you go into preferences you can change the update interval, I have mine set to every 5 minutes, same as the time I have my clients to save my work in case of a crash.

Thanks hopefully my rig is ok, seemed like it booted and hibernated properly after the fact... 2nd half of naxx tonight
lol

Desertfox get over yourself and your "Solaris" what would be the point of developing a virus for an OS that only is used by people who are smart enough to catch the problems anyways?

I did the same thing! Knew what it was before I turned the monitor on, that room is usually 80+F. This morning it was as cool as the rest of the house.
Oh well, luckily on 3 hours of folding, although it appears I lost 88% of a VMware 1920 pointer.

It's not a troll, MS-fanboi. MS days are numbered. And Winbloze isn't an OS, it's GUI malware with a EULA LOL.

So use 'em instead of unzipping your pants for your god over in Redmond.
