Needless to say, this is a scam. Under US law, only the government can indict defendants or throw them in jail. And the scammers seem to have realized that they made a big mistake, as their website now states, "Effective immediately, the Internet Copyright Law Enforcement Agency has ceased operations. Please disregard any notices you received from us, and please do not send us any payments."

These guys are nothing compared with the scams the RIAA and MPAA run. Some thieves are more equal than others.

Now if only they could stop the defamation blackmailers.

The ones that spread fake negative reviews for your service or business, and then charge you to remove said fake reviews.

A friend of mine got caught shoplifting something petty worth maybe 10-20 dollars at kmart around 15yrs ago anyhow they offered him a choice either pay them $400 bucks by a certain date or face criminal charges or civil charges, I don't know exactly how that works but he paid it, lol
Guess if your illegally downloading copyright material even if this was a scam wouldn't this just be considered scamming a scammer, it's kind of like ripping off a drug dealer because what are you going to do call the police
