hello all-

so, ive been surfing online for hours on end now and i found a forum that had this guy talking about how Evga told them that overclocking a card may cause artifacting. the guy said he didnt overclock the card at all since he received it and he had to Download somthing called cool bits to take a look at the card and turn down the overclocking. this may be a fix to my problem that many of you may have been reading about on this forum over the last couple of days.

i have to tell you i am the bigest newb to this whole thing consdiering this is my first build and i have absolutely no clue how to overclock, let alone check to see if my card is already overclocked and then turn it down!

now your forums have a thing called NVtweak, i dled it and i have no idea where to start. if i want to check to see if my card is overclocked, and in the case that it is, reduce the overclock, do i use this program? and if so, HOW! lol.

thanks for your time and assistance, this site has been an amazing help.

Nice Thread. However if it was me I would RMA the card and get a New one.
Yeah im with Enterprise on this one. Why should you have to underclock your card to get it to work right? If its not working right the way it came from the factory then you should RMA it, and get another one. Chances are that if it artifacting its not performing the way it should anyhow.
Mite be something wrong with hes card. Try overclocking your card alittle,

Download Coolbit2.0 and ATI tool for Artifact scaning

The fact is EVGA released a poor card at the end of the day with Instabilities...RMA it. Evga has a wonderful Warranty system.

Did you not just read what his problem is? Overclocking a card thats already artifacting is just pretty moronic.

What drivers are you using? The7950gx2 seems to be pretty picky about which drivers you use.
Im using the 93.71 drivers.

i have tried 3 different drivers. i was reading the overclock FAQ on this site, and it said that artifacting is often caused by the memory being overclocked too much on the card and that turning it down might fix it.

this is an interesting thought however, i have the Dominator twin ram and i have it max OCed on the bios on my MB. i dont know about the video card ram being overclocked, but do you think it might be my actual system ram being overclocked too much that is causing the artifacting with my vid card? are these two possibly linked?

as far as RMA'ing the card, i dont have the original plastic container thing that it came in, will this ruin my ability to resend the card?

and while we are on that topic, why resend it? im getting a 3Dsocre of 8100 on 3Dmark 06, (which is what is really peeving me btw, my score is high but the artifacting is really starting to piss me off cuz i paid 2XXX $ for this system... but at any rate, if it is actually an overclocking issue, and i can restore the card to its defaults to fix the problem, wouldnt that be an ok fix?

if not, i guess i will begin the RMA process. the only thing im worried about however is that it is not the card, but the motherboard or somthign else that i really dont know how to troubleshoot without another PCI-E card.

thanks alot for your help guys.

I tried the 93.71 drivers and got ctd's all the time in games. When I get home from work I'll tell you drivers I'm using. I know most people say to use the 93.71's, but they didn't work for me. All of the oc programs mentioned above are good, but I personally like rivatuner. Any of them should work though. Good Luck

Rivatuner is one of the best. However seriosuly if you need to Downclock that card to get it too work that just isnt right.
I'm using 91.31 drivers with no problems. You might want to give them a try.
